rear diff.

Ok so I bought my car with 4 miles on it. I have driven it for 3 months now, and since the first day I bought the car I have been hearing a whine from the rear diff. I broke the car in as stated in the owners manual, and thought that it was just the diff wearing, or breaking in. About a week or so ago my front speaker on the passenger side blew, I dont listen to the radio loud so this seemed to be just a glitch. I call the dealer and they say that a recall is coming soon on either the speakers or the radio, they dont know which. I schedule an appointment and take the car in today. While I was there I ask the service manager about the whine that I have been hearing. He says that it isnt normal, and asks to drive it. He takes the car for a drive and returns and says that he is going to have a tech take a look at it while the speaker is being replace. About an hour later he returns to the waiting room and asks me who did my struts and springs. I told him that I had done the work. He asks me If I had been in the rear diff for some reason, of course I said no because I have had no reason to. He tells me that someone has drained the fluid from the diff and replaced it with what appears to be paint thinner or something. This was a shock to me, because I bought the car new, anyway to make a long story short, someone did this before I bought the car , so if anyone is having this problem is suggest they take it to the dealer because this happened before I even got the car. Crazy as it may sound. Oh well just thought I would share this bizzare situation. Oh yeah the dealer ordered a new diff. for me ,and it will be installed next week.

wow. so the dealer ordered it... but who's paying? i'd suspect that with paint thinner in there your car would be very very loud?

diff

The dealer is paying. This had to of happened before I got the car, so its not my fault. I was so suprised that he even told me this. But all is well as long as they pay. He said that it would all be covered under warranty.
