Question about a used 02 WRX... *please read*
The (1 of 3) local subaru dealer has a used 02 silver WRX, sedan 5spd... no mods, 23k miles. They are asking a "cool" $18,995.00 dollars for it. Does that price seem steep to anyone else? Yeah its typical for a dealer to charge a butt load of money but i think it is reasonable for them to consider my offer of around $18k, no higher.
I mean i have seen a few WRX's with similar miles, still under the 36k warranty go for really low, one in cincinatti is going for really cheap, and there are other examples. But does my offer seem reasonable to you? I would even like them to go lower than $18k but i dont know if they will do that
Anyway, here is a picture, its in pretty good condition from the pictures i have seen
So what do you think, my offer of NO MORE perferably less than $18grand... is more than resonable? Gimme input please!

IMO i think you can get way better than that, i would keep looking, your probably better off going for a private seller rather than a dealership. also try eBay, good luck
I got them to take the price down to $17,955.00 that price seems a lot more resonable... how could i get them to take it any lower???? Because i would really like to get it a little cheaper, but i do realize that it has 22k miles, thus it is pretty low and it is a dealer vechicle so... i dont know, sounds a lot more reasonable to me, think so too?

do your research. kbb, edmunds etc... you will see that subarus hold their value very well. keep this in mind- - - like any business a car dealership will buy low and sell high. they may have more room to discount depending how much they are in the car for(which they are not legally required to disclose) my experience is that (in terms of subarus) it can be hard for a dealer to offer below "wholesale" value when buying/getting a wrx. so at least do this- know the wrx's current value(in your zip code) and try to get lower- if u don't like the price maybe they realll don't have that much room to discount- bottom line- if u aren't happy with the price... walk
hope that helps

$17,995 is a reasonable price for that car, you're in danger of having someone else get it before you. The point about warranties is good too, you can buy an extended warranty from a Subaru dealer, not privately.

yes that is totally correct, i really think this is a pretty good deal!
How much does tax and title add to the price?

also keep in mind that the wrx is a very "high demand" car. most owners will not trade it in thus making it a premier vehicle to find. dealers will always try to get the most possible knowing this- again it depends also in your area. so.. good luck and happy hunting.

Keep in mind that some of the low prices on used WRXs could be due to some hidden/past damage. Not all used cars are the same.
If you want the best deal from a car salesman, take up a few hours of his time going over the whole deal as if you're ready, then back out and say you want to think it over for another day.
Once you've taken up their time and look like you'll walk away they're willing to take a few hundred$ loss rather than waste that time with you for no sale. (Of course this is your time too.)
And beware of the "oh, btw - someone else was just looking at this car and is thinking of buying it..."

- - - from what i gather some of you have had(or heard of) a negative experience. i do sell cars and even though i think it is wrong to play with a persons emotions like the way it was described. i just think that is wrong- - there are some good people out there and i like to think that i am one of them. when i work with a customer i get all excited and hyped about the whole sale- if i found out that i was played like how you guys stated i would send that customer walking- - -cuz if a customer can do that prior to the sale can u imagine after?
for me personally i would seriously tell the customer to leave. my time is more valuable than that and this is how i support myself my fiance and my 3 year old---- i don't have time to play financial bluffing games with a customer just so they feel better about themselves.(in terms of "calling a bluff")
don't get me wrong, i totally understand where everyone in here is coming from... thats part of the reason why i spend about an hour a day here in i-club. part of it tryin to help people that simply might not have any idea about how the car buying process is. being that i am an insider(because i do in fact sell cars)
i am more than willing to help anyone who is interested in buying a car- even though i'm way out here in hawaii.
so hopefully i am able to help some people whether its a question about financing or products(which the majority in here know more than me) because we are all car nuts!
cool man, sounds like you know a lot about this stuff. I will take some of what you said and try to remeber it when i finally make my purchase, whether its this wrx or some other one!

just check edmunds.com and www.kbb.com and see how much the blue book value is, and im not sure, but if its lower than that, then just tell them most people are paying blah blah for the car, people say edmunds is more accurate, and kelly blue book is a bit high, so yeah, u can use that against them.
