paper material in oil?
paper material in oil?
hey everyone, so i was changing my motore oil today and as i was draining it; i noticed 2 pieces of a paper like material fall out. Does anyone know what this is? could it be from the oil filter? one piece was like 3"x 2" and the other was like 1" x 1", it was pretty soft, and easy to tear, so i don't think it could've done any damage. they came out right when i unscrewed the drain bolt all the way ( the big piece actually stopped the oil from coming out a little in the beginning) so hopefully it just sat on the bottom the whole time it was there.
i've changed my oil many times and have never seen this before. this is probably the longest interval i've gone w/o changing my oil however, because i haven't been driving it too often, last time i changed it was probably about 5k miles ago, over the course of many months.
so does anyone know what it is or have had this happen before?

i doubt its that, i dont see or smell any oil burning or see anything mixing with my coolant. i got into an accident in the spring, but the place that fixed my car would've found if i had a blown headgasket.

Wow. That's a weird one. How many miles was that oil filter in place when this happened and what brand was it? A disintegrating oil filter is about the only thing I could imagine causing this problem.
