So i recently was in an accident with my WRX... I HIT A DEER.... and it pushed my upper radiator support bar into my pullies and tore a hole in my radiator hose... while like a dummy i checked oil and radiator fluid and decided that i really wanted to get it home that night without a tow-truck and put more oil in it when it was not needed.... so i ran it home nearly over-heating with too much oil and got it home... i fixed everything drained my oil and radiator, flushed it all and now i have a problem... my oil light is on but very very faintly. almost to the point to where you can't see it... I am not leaking oil lanywhere and i am burning quite a bit of it.... and suggestions as to whaat it is?

check all oils on the car for levels...if not replace the oil presure sensor

thats what i was thinking... but why now is it coming out? i didn't have a problem before with the fluttering... why would it be eating so much oil... so... idk...

the only thing i can think of is that while ur car was parked ur turbo seals dried up or something.. blown seals...

which suck.

easy way to see, let ur car idle warm up on a hot day until it is at hot almost, then hit the gas, if u get blue smoke out of ur exhaust, ur seals are ****ed!

 

yeah well i don't think it is my seals... but it could be possible...

 

Most likely there is some coolant residue on the oil sensor and wiring, and it's conductive enough to allow a small current to flow to ground which will illuminate the oil light dimly. The light is an LED and it doesn't take much current to light it visibly.
Clean the sensor, wiring and surrounding area thoroughly and the problem should go away.

 

wow... ok... that was a more detailed explination than i was expecting... but i will try that immediately and see if it shows up... let you know when i do it...

 

I think the oil indicator lamp and your oil consumption are two unrelated problems. If your car isn't leaking oil, then it's either going into the coolant or burned up in the exhaust. I think it can be diagnosed by a experienced shop using a leakdown tester (not a compression gauge), but of course a technician may be able to spot something that we can't see online.

A leakdown test can only diagnose problems originating in the engine block or cylinder heads - if the turbo developed a leak with an internal seal, this wouldn't show up.
