New to the Subaru, please help
OK, first of all i used to be a non believer, subaru's were not bad and ok looking cars but my heart was with the dsm's and ,yes sadly, honda's. I own an eclipse gs-t and a crx si currently. Well the original plan was drag the eclipse, auto-x the crx, and all is going well there until i actually rode in a 99 rs 2.5l.... the feeling ruined me, all i can think about is trying to get an awd car and forgetting the auto-x'ing with the crx altogether. and in some strange way the harsh, powerful looks of the impreza has become sleek and beautiful in my eyes. The only issue is I am a little limited by money, if i sell the crx for $2400 to my friend then save up a little about the best i can do is $4000 because i still owe on the eclipse though i've had it for 3 years (curse evil kingpin bankers!). so basically i'm limited to 94-96 impreza's, which come in two flavors, 1.8 and 2.2. I know she'll have to be 5-speed but i'm wondering how much slower she'll be than my crx, i now that speed really isn't the point with those models but still i'm curious, and is the 1.8 a turd because the 2.2 is kind tough to find. help me out please, i wish i knew more about suby's but i'm learning fast.

well all i can say is give it a ride and see what it feels like and the condition its in i have a 98 L 2.2 with 136000 and its still very zippy deffinatly enough to get you in trouble imprezas are very fun cars on and offroad as you will see like i said if its in good shape and the ride is good and no major engine problems id say go for it the mileage you can get on these cars is amazing just take care of it and hope the person before you took care of it and the engine will probably outlast the body lol

thx
thx a lot for the help, things are kinda happening fast here too so i hope to have an update to the situation soon, only thing is the suby is about 540 miles away and thus far i've only gone 400 miles away to get a car, so it's gonna be a good bit of work to get her and even to test drive her but if all works out i may have my own AWD girl to take care of. if anyone else has any comments or advice or if there is any additional info you can lend i'll be checking back a few times a day. thx for the help

tru story
2 years ago i sold my 5.0 mustang to make room for my wrx...i miss it dearly. but the newfound joy of AWD and good MPG has smothered my irrational thinking of the all american hot rod. sometimes i drive my rex thinking its my 5.0 again... what is my point...? whatever it is you want take the time to save up for it-if u can wait. 'cuz believe me... if u don't when you get the "different car" you will drive it like the one you really wanted. if price is your issue thats one thing... but cost is another... the main difference is this- price - whether it be expensive or not is a one time thing- cost on the other hand is a lifetime thing. yes you can get a high mileage car cheaper than a low mileage one but then thats when cost actually takes over the price. 'cuz now u take the fact that you will have repairs in the future. . . hopefully this is not a dizzying effect... just trying to help!!

thx kbaywrx! your input means a lot and i hope anyone going to sell a car in favor of another one on this forum reads it because you preach the truth. luckily in my situation i get to keep my turbo eclipse (i wouldn't even consider selling her) and i'm giving up a car that's just a play car and i've only had for a few months. Also, i'm selling her to my best friend so she'll still be around and she has 129k miles on her as well, but still running strong. Hope the same is true for the suby. Still, it made my sad to think of someone losing the car they've always wanted, hope that maybe in the future you can have both wrx and 5.0 stang, even though i'm not a hot rod fan.

performance specs
what kind of 0-60 times are we talking about with a 5-speed 2.2L awd impreza. spec's aside from curb wieght and hp ratings are tough to come by... maybe i missed this info on the forum but if any one has any idea or estimates please let me know.

yeah i'm pretty sure you're right hp and torque wise. she's gonna need some modifying to be a little quicker than that though, not that i really want her to be fast, just... ample! no turbo's or nitro... just plain, slightly turned ponies (modified intake, headers, exhaust, clutch, pulley's) and a good all conditions/weather suspension. i can't wait to get her out in her first good snow! because as we all know, subies love the snow.

they sure do
i have a few mods done i have a kand n filter snorkusectomy, the grounding mod and soon to be pullies on saturday im psyched about the pullies, the snorkusectomy is def a first mod it makes the 2.2 sound a little meaner well worth the 30 mins IMO if you do a search you can find tons of info on first mods and such

weight
here's something interesting, the curb weight for the 4 door impreza l is 2690lbs which is a pretty light car, especially for a 4-door... well here's the twist, when i was thinking about what Suby i wanted i didn't initially want a 4-door because i figured it would be big heavy and slugish... here's the catch... upon further research i found out that the 2-door actually weighs 2720lbs! that's 30 lbs heavier than the 4-door! what can i say... 4-door all the way!

dead beats
lol, those guys in CT must have not wanted to sell a car because they called me once then acted like they weren't sure if they had the car then told me they would call back and that's been 3 weeks almost. i work in sales and i know that if you don't have the car, find one close and try and call the person back or at least email me! ... i've had that bottled up for a while, i feel better now. i guess i'm back in the market... sadly though i wanted to have the suby before the end of winter.
