New brake pads and rotors
I have an '02 WRX wagon. I was told I need new rear brake pads and rotors. Should I get Subaru parts or do you recommend something else? Also, where can I get the best prices on these items?
Thanks for your help. |
Your old pads must have worn to the point where the rear rotors were grooved or somehow damaged.
Personally, I think that there are better pads from the aftermarket for both general daily driving or track (road course). I've used Axxis Ultimate pads front and rear and DBA one-piece rotors on the fronts with good results. The Ultimates dust quite a bit, though. I think I will try Carbotech Bobcat pads the next time around. Street pads will work well when cold and do so with a minimum of noise, which is something not all performance pads do so well. You can search the Classifieds on i-Club for vendors that sell brake upgrades for the Impreza. SubyDude.com is a popular vendor but there are others. For more recommendations on pads and rotors, there are some existing threads in the Impreza Brakes sub-forum that can likely be found using the forum Search feature. Don't buy your pads and rotors from subaru! too much $$$. Try going to www.subydude.com. they have some good prices on slotted rotors, and I've been using
the carbotech bobcat pads, and they've lasted great, and stop great without much brake dust. Just my two cents. You shouldn't have to replace the rear rotors unless you've let the olds pads dig into the rotors. |
Or hit up mike at gst motorsports

I recently ordered OEM Brembo replacements from these guys:
http://www.importrp.com/product.php?productid=11949&cat=38&page=1 As for pads - basic rule of thumb is that if you want low noise/low dust you are going to have a pad which is not suited for track use of any kind and will fade more quickly...BUT they will work better when cold and are perfectly fine for most people. |
get axxis ult or hawk pads...

I got some centric blank and axxis ultimae from MPJ Performance/Speed Element for front and rear... I don't autox/rallyx/track my car anymore so this is good enough for my daily drive...

Don't buy the Centric Rotors, they are crap. DBA all the way. While your doing the rears, upgrade to H6. Better Bias.
