Well im kinda new here, im going on a few car forums looking into what car i should be getting. I asking the owners opinion, so that is what im going to do to you.
please read the whole thing.
well heres the story; i dont have a car yet, i actually dont have a licence. Im in australia and my parents promised me about $15,000 australian dollars. I can buy a subaru GX the base model for bout $23-24 thousand australian dollars. By the way the GX is the stock base model, nothing special. Over here they have added the aircon into it for free, normally onthe base model it is an option. Anyways i have heard that the subaru has some problems with its transmission, something bout it being weak. I have heard stories of peopel aving to get their transmission repaired very often. I have also heard that the clutch can become very soft - as in you have to push the pedal to the floor before the clutch lets go. Basically that is the only bad things i have heard bout the car. I think i should be able to save the difference to get the car ever a yr or so. And i dont wat second had i would prefer new. So anyways do you know of any problems wiht the transmision like i have mentioned, or has it been fixed for the new 05 model.
it is just that i dont want to get the car and find i have to spend every cent i have keeping the transmission going.
Well any input on the transmission problems, or any other problems i might have- especially as a new driver.
oh yea by the way, i would get the manual, just in case you hve not guessed that.
Thanks in advance.

First of all, whats a Subaru GX? Is that like the Subaru Impreza RS in North America? If it is its not turbocharged, so the tranny should stand up to the power of the natrurally aspirated engine. If its like the WRX and is turbocharged, the tranny should still be fine unless you seriously abuse it. (clutch drops, highly upgraded motor, etc...) One word of advice: Don't void your warranty by modding up your car! Run the car stock until your warranty expires. By then any quality issues that have arisen would have been covered under your warranty.
Good Luck!

thanks
yea, i know, i wil wait to modd anything, all ill probably change is some basic appearance things, like rims and low profiles. And yes the GX is only a N/A. It is not like the RS, we have the RS in australia too, it is a 2.5 L engine. the GX is still a 2 L. And it has no turbo or anything, it is a base model. I then plant to add some low profiles and some 17" rims. That is all, then once the 3 yr waranty is up, then i can go for some real mods.
