Looking for a used STi...

So, I've had a truck and was originally looking to get another... but decided that I was finally tired of the whole 10mpg thing, so I decided to go with an STi. I've been eyeing the car since it came out and have heard nothing but good things about Subaru quality (my Chevy was the biggest pos I've ever had, 2001 Tahoe, 3 trannys, 3 rear difs, abs failure, etc). I recently moved to the Portland area and will be going to Mt Hood regularly, so the AWD will definately be a must.

I've been shopping around for them for a couple weeks now and came across a few on autotrader. This one in particular caught my eye...

I has exhaust, intake, boost guage, BOV, Infiniti system, etc. and I was wondering if $25,999 @ 16K miles is a good price or if I could possibly squeeze a little lower.

Thanks.

Plugging in the model year, ZIP code, vehicle condition (assuming 'excellent condition') and mileage at Kelley Blue Book results in the following private party prices:

Excellent
$27,205

Good
$25,760

Fair
$23,800

The low mileage of this particular vehicle is what jacks up the price. Also, the topic of purchasing a used WRX or STi is occasionally discussed as many highly-modified vehicles are returned to stock or near stock before they are sold. It can be very difficult to spot a car like this. With 16,000 miles on the clock, however, this car just hasn't been driven very much so there is less chance for abuse.

As far as the modifications go, the 'performance' stuff listed does not do much, with the straight pipe making a difference of probably less than 10 hp. Just disregard those mods as performance-enhancing and concentrate on the rest of the car. If you do happen to buy this vehicle, get the OEM parts like the intake and catback from the seller.

The STi is a good choice for your location when equipped with all-season or winter tires but just keep in mind that the ride quality is stiffer than most cars and trucks and has limited hauling capacity (rear seat does not fold down). It will, however, be a lot of fun on mountain roads and the turbo engine does not fall off in power as rapidly as normally-aspirated vehicles.
