Legacy Shopping

I'm currently in the market for a new car, as my current one is having reliability issues (Supra with blown head gasket, see here). Money is short, so I'm trying to stay under $4000. One of the cars I'm considering is a 1995+ Subaru Legacy. I looked at a 1996 Sedan L AWD today but it hadn't been taken very good care of at all so I'm still looking. Here are a few I've noticed:

1995 SUBARU LEGACY L, green, grey interior, 2wd, great gas mileage, 132,000 miles, $3500.

1995 LEGACY Outback 4x4, 5spd, AC, PW, PDL, 95K miles, $3900/ obo.

1995 SUBARU Legacy Wagon, maroon, 80K mi, 5-spd, 4-dr, new tires. $3900

1996 LEGACY AWD wgn, looks & runs great, dk blue, loaded, gas mileage! 140k $3995

The best deal seems to be the Outback, but I'm concerned it might be a salvaged title for that price. I'd really prefer a Sedan, but the only one here is 2WD. What do you guys think about these prices? What should I look for when looking at these Subarus?

I bought the outback. It was salvaged, but the damage wasn't too bad and the price was good. I got it for $3400. The engine looks like it is in excellent condition. Here are some pictures:

From a Supra to an outback.. that has to be a bit of a change for you, at least on the performance side This one should be a bit faster in the snow however.

Nice looking car. Good choice.

I will miss the Supra. I learned how to drive a manual on my dad's 1999 Outback and I've always liked Subarus. In fact, I was considering buying an Impreza before I got my Supra, but it was a little out of my price range at the time. Some day I hope to get a Supra again, but this will be a great car for quite a while.
