just got 05 black sti with scratches and dings..help!!
what's up all???
i found an 05 black/silver sti fully loaded last week.. after inspecting the vehicle before purchasing i noticed some minor sctraches and a ding in the rear bumper in an area where it curves downward so they will most definitley have to replace the whole bumper..
i received a due bill and was told to bring the car in at my convenience to repair the issues at hand and a rental car will be given..
i dropped it off and told them i want it perfect and brought back to factory condition with no swirls..
i now fully regret buying that one and should of waited however long it takes to get a perfect one..
when i pick up the sti next week and if I see any problems I will state they did not get the vehicle back to what they promised and will demand i trade it in for a perfect one..
do you think they will make the customer happy and trade it for another one if the paint work isn't up to factory standards? i'm just worried they will have buffed out so much of my factory paint i'll have problems later.. also i know a new bumper will be put on and afraid it won't be perfect..
i can't believe i'm putting myself through this but at the time of the purchase they only had the one i wanted with all the options in stock.. (short throw shifter, alarm, dimming mirror, tints..) also 1500 below msrp...
Should i just accept one i've done and move on once I get it back?? we all know that it's inevitable to keep cars perfect from scratches, door dings etc....
due you think I have a case to swap it out? it has 250 miles on it and i bought it with 9?
thanks,
levsti

You get $1500 below MSRP and you're not happy with that? I'm over $500 when I bought mine... and in terms of scratches and stuff like that, it will happen eventually.
What I'm saying is, don't sweat it. You basically have the right car with the options you wanted, plus having a below MSRP, you can't go wrong with that. The only minor let down was the ding and swirls which it seem to me that you have to look hard for anyone to notice. And it is an easy fix!
If I was in your situation, I'd be very thankful and would over look the minor things. Good luck to you!

"Let the buyer beware" is fair here. It's your responsibility to check out the car closely before buying. No car is perfect. $1500 below MSRP is a bargain. The damage/problems you describe seem really slight and a lot like the kind of wear the car will get in the first few months, anyway. Swirl marks? Yep, I have a black WRX (MBP) is it's something you will have to learn to deal with. Use a polish to remove swirls before waxing or sealing. You'll have to do it yourself or pay a detailer to do it... or learn to love swirls. Only correct use of clean 100% cotton towels and good cleaning/waxing products will keep swirls from developing.
If painting is done on a new bumper, remember that you'll have to wait several months for that paint to cure before using any polish or wax. The bumpers don't come from the factory pre-painted. That's done in the body shop. Don't expect perfection from the paint shop, it's not going to look exactly like factory paint (but will probably be pretty darned close).
You will probably no not succeed in getting a completely new STI to satisfy your exacting demands. Learn to live by the decisions you make and don't expect others to pay if you discover you made a less than perfect choice. Relax, enjoy life and your great new STI and don't sweat the small stuff.

i just want to thank you all for the insight and agree with each one of you.. I know the information on these forums is very valuable and look forward to them..
I just got back from subaru to look at the paint work and am very pleased.. I examined the paint in direct sunlight and could not find any swirls and the bumper matched perfectly.. The bumper did not need to be replaced and the repair looks excellent.
This is my third black car in a row... I guess i never learn... but the sti looks so sweet in black..
thanks for the replies..

Glad things worked out for you and the new STi. Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment, too. I owned another black car and I just love them. They require a lot of upkeep but nothing IMHO looks as good as a nicely detailed black car.
