Importing a Subaru

I have been recently thinking of importing an impreza from Japan, I found a nice little dealership and they have been very helpful so far. But my problem is that Canada has a regulation that you can't import cars that are less than 15 years old, which asks the question. How long has the impreza been manufactured in Japan?? I know it is very recent in North America and fairly recent since the UK release of the Impreza, but I can not find any information about the Japanese release.

Also, does 30,000 Japanese Yen ($350 Canadian) sound right for shipping?? I thought it would be around $1,000-$2,000 Canadian.

30,000 does not sound right for shipping. Then again not sure about shipping to Canada. It may be right.

The first Impreza was introduced in 1993, the first version of the STI was introduced in Japan in 1994 with 238hp @ 6000 rpms

damn, I was really hoping to get a right-side drive Sooby. And I found a few other quotes for shipping looks like its about $900. Anyways thanks for the help.
