How to go about this WRX buy.
Alright, I made up my mind once and for all, but can you blame me for looking into ideas? Anyways, I have a dealer that is really good to me and is willing to go the extra mile and a half to make me happy, it just so happens to be Patriot Subaru... I bought my Explorer there. Well I am looking at getting into a used WRX withing the month and my salesperson told me to pick a color, mileage range and how much I wanted to spend and he would do his best to comply to my standards. Well, I have been torn between colors, availability and a few other variables. I REALLY want a white 04 however they are wishing me luck on getting one because they are never available where they get them, ever. I want one with out a wing and I am trying to do my best to get something, a color, a feature that not EVERYone and there mothers cousins father in law has.
I thought of red, thinking hmm, I don't see to many of those around but then I look at one in person and they just don't do it for me, under no circumstances will I buy a blue one, no offense to the owners but everyone knows WRX's are supposed to be blue, it is almost a trademark of the car. I really like black I must say, silver is alright. If I have one regret when buying my charcole Explorer it was that the color was too plain, too boring, I hate baige, charcole, grey... I heard of the Subaru's paint protector, went to a dealer and they had me pet an Outback that did not have it, and then a black 05 WRX that did and boy was that smooth, will it be hard to find one with that? are they only available as an option on a premium?
I want to be assured that the car has been taken care of, something very very clean and something that passes with flying colors in all catagories, keep in mind I am buying this car used, does it make it better because it is from a dealership and they may not want to even sell a beat one? I know they took in an 04 WRX in black with 19,000 miles on it... they wanted to sell me it but when I didn't take it they insisted that I was smart. I drove it and it felt like ****, the kid had a VF22 Turbo, HKS BOV, HKS full turbo back, DP, UP and boost guages, it was spiking at 20psi in 4th on the highway at about 4k, the power was not consistant and it was the most recent WRX I've driven, they replaced all the parts with stock parts and it is now on the lot. That kind of situation scares me off for sure, knowing what I know saved my *** because if I was not in the good with those guys there and close with them I could have been a sucker that drove off the lot with that car.
I really want this but I kind of need some advice from you all on what to tell my sales person when he looks, some lay down the law statements for him to cover my ***, I want clean, well taken care of and I want to be 100% happy in the end, no RSX Type S's, no SRT's, no s2000's... the WRX is just me, I remember before even thinking my credit was good enough to get into one that if I could buy one all around perfect car it would be this so I am backing up my statement of the past tense. Thanks for the help.

In September when I was shopping around for leftover 2004s and used 2004s with less than 10,000 miles, a lot of the dealerships said that they could get me into a 2005 for the same or less than a 2004. I had literally emailed every single Subaru dealership in New England to ask what they could do for me.
I found a new 2005 Wagon at Manchester Subaru in Manchester, New Hampshire in the color that I wanted (PSM, although I like the Crystal Grey Metallic a lot now too!) at a price that was about $4,000 less than MSRP and below invoice.
I don't know what your price range is. Personally, I'm glad I am the first owner of my car. WRXs are cars that get beat on and you never really know if a previous owner took car of the car or just wanted it to joyride in. That's just my opinion. I'm looking forward to having my car for a long time. I bought it in October and I already have over 12,500 miles on it!

I know I've already responded to several of your posts over the past few months as you've mulled over the idea of ditching your Exploder. If you've finally decided to get rid of it, and go with the Subaru, that's great, I think it'll be a much better car for you than an S2000, and as long as you can stomach the payments, go for it if you think it will make you happy.
As far as what to look for, you've kinda answered the question for yourself in your first post. You need to find a CLEAN, NON BEATEN car that's in your price range. If you're committed to going to one dealer because you think they will offer you the best service, that's great, but recognize that this also limits your selection to the sources that this one dealer has. They don't make any money going on wild goose chases for cars, so if you're specific about options (e.g. spoiler, paint protection, color, etc), you're limiting the search even further, and you're going to get the first car they can get their hands on that is even close to what you're looking for, because they won't want to pass on it for fear of not finding a better one.
If on the other hand, you simply tell them "look, I want a really clean car, and I'm flexible on the other stuff, just no Blue please....", you're more likely to get a clean car.
It's easy to do a trunk swap or put paint protectant on a car after the fact. I know when I bought mine ( I have the opposite color taste from you it seems), I started out looking only for blue, and after passing on 2 beautiful cars (one white, one black), and then having to pass on 2 more beaten senseless blue ones, I finally (4 months later) decided that I couldn't be picky anymore, and snagged a silver one, but paid the same for a car with more miles, than I could've had 4 months earlier with the black or white ones I'd passed on. Plus I blew an entire summer of what would've been great Suby driving while I was looking.....
They're a little more available now than they were when I bought, but you have to keep in mind that new cars, you order from a factory and get what you want, but there's a reason that used cars are cheaper. If you really want white, no spoiler, etc... just save yourself the trouble and get a new one for $21,500..... I'm 99% certain Patriot will sell for that, and if they won't PM me.

Yes definitely go for a new one. Used is not the way to go because something could go wrong in the sale or after the fact. I used to be a salesman and I know how sales works, they will tell you almost anything you want to hear. A new car speaks for itself. Everytime I have bought a car it was always sold to me AS-IS and with-out a warranty. I had a buddy that beat on his WRX and his 2nd and 4rd gears went out, and he blew his first motor. His is RED also, strange how that works. Anyway the boost spiking was probably because you hit boost cut like mine does around 23.5psi but in 5th gear on my STI. Just because the WRX is coming from a dealership doesn't mean it is any better than one thats not. That just means you have subaru guys there that know the car to work on it better and reverting it to stock was probably good for the car. The only reason I know of that someone would return a WRX is for an STI or maybe going towards the family forrester or legacy. You do not see too many on the side of the road dealerships because the WRX is a good car. If you need tips on how to talk to salesmen you can PM me. I know how you can get a good WRX so let me know.
