Question Glovebox Rattle

I have a 2002 WRX with 57 000km, and the glovebox rattles with road imperfections. I tried to see if there is any adjustability built into the latch mechanism but didn't see any. It locks fine and all, but when its closed its not snug against the dash which causes it to rattle. Its pretty damn annoying and I'd like to get it fixed.

Also I'm getting a clunking sound out of the front (driver's side) suspension. This happens when im accelerating, decelerating, or when going over rough roads. The car is bone stock, including the the suspension. I've taken it to my nearest Subie dealership and they didn't find anything. I looked at it as well, inspected all the motor mounts, tranny mount, suspension bushings and it all seemed nice and tight. However, the clunking is still there and seems to be getting worse. I'm suspecting the shocks,ball-joints, or maybe the axle.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Clunking

My car makes a similar clunking noise, changes with temperature, when its cold outside it is worse. The source on mine is the under engine plastic shield (the huge plastic part that goes under the engine and up into the wheel wells) on mine the mount tabs are broken in two spots, that's where my noise is coming from, just bump the fender with your hand lightly and see if you can duplicate the noise. Worked for me.....

glove box problem can be solved by placing a foam strip on the glovebox mount on the left side or the right side of the box which presses the box and the dash together... it pissed me off and for now i'm using a towel hanging out of it to fix it but ill get around to trying the foam fix soon

one of your front upper strut mount is bad or the strut it self is bad , that causes the clunk noise you here when you hit bump's.

Mine sounded like a bad strut mount but it was just the shield mount tabs being broken.

The car is at the shop right now for another reason, but I just phoned the service advisor to check the struts and upper strut mounts while its there.

Ok. They fixed the glovebox. I guess there is a way to adjust it even though there is no adustability built into it. Go figure
On the other hand they didn't bother to look at the strut or the strut mounts. They "claim" that they're virtually indistructible. Whatever, I guess I'll look at it myself when I install some spings next summer. I just hope it won't fall apart until then.
Cheers!
