Exclamation Engine Knock

I have an 04 WRX and have recently been hearing a knock sound at about 2000 rpms and higher. I have about 64000 miles on the engine; the only thing that I have actually changed on the car myself is the spark plugs. I don't think that is the problem though since the knock sound is pretty loud, like metal hitting metal. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm hoping that none of the major engine components got damaged. Any help would be appreciated.

It's more like a thud thud thud sound; not a high pitched tick tick. Yeah, I think I blew something in the block; probably a spun rod bearing. Will probably try to swap in the 2.5 block if I need to change it out. Getting it checked out today; I'll let you know how it goes.
