Cobb Tuning?

I was thinking about getting the stage 1 tune from cobb for my 04' wrx. Lets say I get the stage 1 and something happens that requires me to take it to subaru, would they be able to tell the I got the stage? Lets say that I set it back to the stock map. Has anyone every come across this problem? I'm just scared of voiding my warranty!

If you reflash your stock ECU, I believe the dealer shouldn't be able to tell for sure unless they look at the ECU directly. COBB puts a sticker on your ECU indicating it's been reflashed and at what version.

I would advise you this way - if you start to mod your car, either prepare to pay for it if it breaks, or prepare for your dealer to give you a hard time about getting warranty service. If you don't want any warranty bs, leave your car stock and don't race it in any events. Otherwise, you run the risk of your dealer making life difficult. It sucks, but that's how it is.

Remember this, once you start with a little mod and trying to keep the warrenty, soon you will be buying alot of other stuff, lol that happened to me, I don't really care about the warrenty anymore, Subaru's are great cars I'm not too worried about warrenties.

If you flash it with an AccessPORT nobody will know for sure (at least not with current tools) but if you are worried about your warranty you should probably wait before modding.

Well, not exactly. The values for everything is supposed to be the same as stock and the performance of the car is same as stock but if they come out with a tool to detect reflashing (rumor has it that the Cherry Hill HQ can do it) they will be able to tell.

However, as it stands now the dealership can't detect a reflash even if you don't put it in "stock" mode. All they could tell is that it pulls stronger, and I doubt they'd be that observant.

If you wanted to spend the money, you could always buy a second ECU and have that one flashed/tuned. That way you would still have your original stock ECU untouched if you needed to take it in for warranty. Kind of a waste of $ though...

You can find them on ebay sometimes. I called a few junkyards and all were about $250.
