check engine light (knock sensor)
long story, hope I can get some help. Last week the check engine light came on in '02 impreza obs. It has 85k miles and I change the oil religiously with the best synth oil and filters. It took it to advance to get a reading and it got a P0328, Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor) reading. It was due for state inspection so I had the mechanic change the timing belt hoping it would help and for peace of mind anyway in case it didn't solve the problem. The mechanic said he reset the light and drove it for an hour. He said there was no problem and if the light comes on I should get my gas somewhere other than where I normally get it. Seems like he doesn't want to make this his problem. Before this whole fiasco I've upgraded my octane to 89 or above. I thought these engines where supposed to be great. I had a cavalier with 128k miles that had 0 problems before I sold it. Has anyone had this problem?
Knock sensor
It is a great engine, and very reliable. Like most small, japanese engines, it is sensitive to what you put in it, though. Definitely 89 octane is the way to go. I bought my impreza (01 rs) and tried putting 87 in and it ran like ****. Also, add some Chevron Techron every 3-4 tanks to keep the injectors clean.
Although it could be the knock sensor, try those things first.

knock sensor
thanks for the heads up. I tried a multitude of things, but I found a good shop that specializes in subaru's and it turned out to be the knock sensor itself. I had it repaired and have had 0 problems. Thanks again.
