changing differential oil
changing differential oil
hey guys, i was changing my tranny and dif fluids today. i have a manual trans. the tranny went smooth, but i can't get the filler bolt (top bolt) on the rear differential off. i am just using a 1/2" ratchet drive with an extension, and that sucker won't come off. i even used a breaker bar and wd40 and the thing still wouldn't budge. How did everyone get it off, because the 1/2" ratchet drive is starting to leave grooves in the square thing on the bolt.
And i am turning counter clockwise.
thanks for any help.

Also if you got too long of an extension your probably just applying pressure sideways instead of actually turning it. Shortest extension possible will make it easier to turn instead of push.

what i ended up doing was putting the wrench on and jacking the other end up with the oem jack. worked pretty good. took a few times before it got loose, but it worked atleast.
hey idid the change too. feel around in the bottom hole you will find some of that hardened sealent in there and the locktite on the bolt(and no it is not metal from the dif.)
