brake light/battery light ???

so my car is running ok now, but after my car sits in the cold for more than a couple of hrs. the lights flash on. runs ok, but it should not be coming on.
my mechanic said it could be the start of the alt going or as simple as stuff on the wires ..
any ideas people... im counting on ya,
thanks!

Not sure I follow the problem....

But I had a constant battery drain problem on my first Car I had....went through hell to find out it was the brake light switch that is located near the brake pedal.

It had went bad and was leaving the brake lights on and thus draining the battery////might want to look there.....?

Before replacing anything you should have the electrical system checked out by someone with the proper equipment. Could be a failing alternator and/or battery, or as simple as loose battery terminals or grounds. You wouldn't want to spend $ replacing things for no reason.
Since you already seem to have a mechanic, why not just have him go over the car to find out what is wrong? OTOH if he gave you the advice above after already having looked at the car then I think you need a new mechanic.
