Any tips on getting the most for your tade in?
I live in San Diego and want to get an 06 STi. my delima is that i have a modified 2000 prelude SH. the biggest thing is that it has a new base model engine / tranny. The chassis has 98k on it, and the engine has 45k on it.
other wise the car is nearly spotless. extreemly smooth paint, nearly flawless interior, upgraded stereo, wheels etc (i know add ons do nothing for the value)
The blue book difference between the base and SH models is only a $400 difference.
I do have reciepts for the engine that will go with the car.
So, in a situation like this or any for that fact, what can you do to get the most for your trade in?
also, are there any specific socal dealers that give a significantly better price on trade ins?
TIA!
Doug

I have a Prelude too. Trust me, sell it privately. You'll get ripped off beyond belief trading it to a dealer and you'll have money to throw down on the STi which will probably help with your finance rates a little more.

im just tired of having it in the garage when i dont even use it anymore.

Yes sell private, I also owned a Prelude, I got 18+k for it, but then again, I had less than 20k mi on it......it might take longer to find a buyer than trade it in, but its worth it in the long run.

Yes I would take the time and sell it Privately, the Dealership is going to give you wholesale for it no matter what.. They always have the excuse that we can buy this same car at the auction for this amount, so why would we give you more type of thing.

selling it outright is obviously what i would like to do. i would hate to see her go to a dealer and be un appreciated. however i figured if anyone had any tips that it wouldnt hurt.
when i traded in my SC2 to get my lude i told them i owed 600 more then i actually did so that helped, however here we are talking about owing 2 grand over trade in (1,000 below private sale) so i doubt they would go for that.

"lude", nice
the guys at Tech3 in San Jose used to call mine a "prerude"<----in a thick asian accent
you'll never get any appreciation of your mods going thru a dealer, some private seller might just give you the money you're asking 4....

No, I mean how much would you sell the Mugen's for. The keep the change and buy something cheaper to save a few books on trade in. I promise the dealer won't say "oh wow, Mugen wheels, I'll add 1000 to the value".

im sure they would fit, however they would feel like *** on an S2k. the rear wheels are wider then the front on the S2k, where these are the same all around.
