06 price question.

Im sure you guys get these all the time, I searched and didnt really find anything, maybe I didnt use the right words. Anyways, I am very close to making a purchase on an 06 wrx(just the wrx not the tr or sti), and I was getting quoted out the door for 27,500 at Big Valley Subaru. So I knew that was too much, so my dad and I called a couple other places, and got a guy in thousand oaks willing to sell it for 25,700 out the door, thats with taxes, license and everything, with the good possibility of lowering the price some more. Now what I was wondering, is that what I should be paying for an 06? I did the math and calculated and that turns out to be a good price, but I just wanted to double check before I actually go ahead and do the deal. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

According to MSN.com the MSRP price is 24,995. Are there any options on the WRX? I am looking at a WRX limited myself and at 27,000 the TTL bring the price above 29,000.

The best thing to do when you want to buy a car is go to the dealership with the MSRP and a few prices from the internet. Let them know what price you are looking for. Get them to go down from where they currently are. Then leave and wait about 2 or 3 days and come back and they will usually lower the price a little more just to make the sale. Right now is a good time to buy an 06 because the 07s are going to be coming out and they need to clear there lots or they will be in the red and that is bad for them.

if you are quoted a better price from a different dealership, let them know that and dont settle for anything more than that at the most.
Good luck on the purchase.

From a Suby salesman perspective (sort of like speeding advice from the CHP). If you want the best price and are truly ready to purchase, then go to the dealer to buy today (at the right price of course). Nobody is going to give you their best price when they know you are just going to shop the number. The dealers that do, tend to have "sold the car" when you get there or, can only offer this price on the Black one (in the desert)... you get the drift.

1st place to try is the dealer you are going to have your car serviced at. Know what you are willing to pay... there has to be enough profit in the number to make it a valuable offer. Then stick to your guns. This is a car that he has in stock. If he is going to have to dealer trade to get you your color/equipment choice, then expect to pay $200-$300 more then if he has it already on his lot.

If that 1st salesman pulled a trade from another dealer on a 'maybe' he is the fool. Not you. No commitment from you = no trading.

Also, do not walk and expect to get a better deal a few days later... you left the 1st time without getting the best price (the price did not fall on the 2nd visit), you only got the price you could have had when you 1st visited if they knew you were there to drive your new car home that day.

Anthing you read on Edmunds is pure crap ~ there trade values and new car prices are way off ALL the time. There is ONE bible here in the biz and that's Kelley Blue Book.

Final point. Always shop at the end of the month when everyone is trying to hit the monthly target for the dealership. Come ready to buy and with a good offer that is fair to you... don't just pull a number from thin air. Start at a discount from MSRP or a number above dealer invoice.

If the dealer treats you with respect, does not hound you and you like the salesman, buy the car and get on with enjoying your new ride!

Best bet is to get the Consumer Reports wholesale price for the car, which is lower than the invoice price, and negotiate from there. It's available via consumerreports.org for around 15-20 bucks. You'll also get the wholesale prices for options.

It's also better to deal with the Internet salesman... e-mail them about the car, and let them know you are contacting other dealers, or do one of those e-mail 3 dealers for quotes things via Edmunds.com or cars.com. Internet dealers generally know that folks who e-mail about cars are more knowledgeable about pricing and are shopping around, so they are more likely to give you a better deal. Use the dealer who gave you the best quote or are more comfortable with, then negotiate via phone from the wholesale price.

Make sure when you call to negotiate, that you set limits for yourself for when you make offers to the dealer, i.e. what's your ideal price, acceptable price and least acceptable price. Don't forget that tax and licensing will be additional costs. Also, make sure to have financing set up outside the dealer -- if the dealer can beat it, great, but it's always better to set it up first and know the terms. Hoepfully, after talking on the phone, you will have your your agreed upon price (have them fax it or e-mail to you), and will then just go in to sign the paperwork and drive away. There are other tricks like buying at the end of the month, quarter or even the year, when dealers are more motivated to sell to meet their numbers, and to avoid having the car on their books. Also, be nice to the dealer, you want a deal, they want to make some $$, it should be a win-win.

I did all this and got my car, new off the lot, for nearly $3,000 under MSRP.

A good time to buy is now through the end of August. The 07's will be coming out and the dealerships will be trying to push the 06's and if there are any, the 05's off the lot to make room. Good luck and I hope you get the car you want and the deal you want.

Remember, your about to drop over 25K for a car. Make sure it is the one you want, not the one they put you in.

When I sold cars I saw that the MSRP is usually around 3-5 thousand above the invoice price. Keep that in mind when you are doing some bargaining.
