'04 STi purchasing!?
Ok, so whats the deal. Are they going for msrp, invoice, etc.....? What should i expect to get and try to bargain for when i go for an STi??
I almost bought a wrx last week, but that didn't work out to my liking. The price was right, but it didnt have all the options i wanted, had some i didn't want.... and they kept trying to throw that car on me since they didnt have any vehicles with all the options i was asking for.
Thanks for any help guys.....

hmm
since they are only making 4,500 stis for the 1st year. most dealers will not sell you an sti at the invoice price. some states will mark up even higher. msrp tends to be the more than fair price if the dealer has a mark up. as far as options go you won't have any for an sti except maybe stereo options. no leather.nofloor mats. unless specially ordered. hope this help!

i am trying to figure out why dealers are selling their cars @ invoice?? if i were to sell my own "goods" iwould at least try to make a profit. selling an sti is not like selling a civic dx or a neon base model! as prized as the car is. . . it boggles my mind for a dealer to de-value the car by giving it away. even this early on in the year there is only a very small incentive for the sti.
The way I understand it is the invoice we hear about is not actually what the dealer pays for the car. But even if it was, there's a lot of people that go to a dealer and say OK to whatever the salesman says is the price. Dealers are making a healthy profit, not to worry.

Invoice is not what they(dealers) pay for it.
*to explain more on that.... basically they have a holdback price if you ever heard of it. As far as i know, it's 3% of the msrp for Subaru dealers.(could be different, but that's the last i heard)
Meaning, take 3% of the msrp listing on the car your looking at. Whatever that 3% is, take that away from the invoice price. That would be what dealer pays for the vehicle. And the longer they have the car on their lot, the more money they lose, so they wanna sell them quick!

In addition, most dealers utililze some form of lot planning to achieve their inventory. Most lot planning financing for dealers come in 30 or 60 day increments. Dealers will pay interest on the car each day it sits on the lot. Considering the -50 degree wind chill in manchester combined with lack of interest of a car with summer tires in the middle of the snow equals slow sales. Some dealers will be willing to take the 3% profit ($2606) over having 10 sti's sitting on the lot and paying interest becuase its too cold for most buyers to go window shopping.

You could... but if you can bargain you should do fine where your at. With good credit you can get good financing rate as well for the STi. i was told 3.59 or something like that from a local dealer if credit score is atleast 720. As far as the dealer holdback, i hear that the northeast may be different than the rest of the states as far as how much the holdback is for subaru dealers. I have yet to find out for certain what it is in this area, but i have heard its different.
Exactly, the longer it sits on lot, the more they lose. Thats why they try to push cars on the lot to you more so than getting one for you from another dealer or ordering one. Which a dealer tried that with a wrx to me last week. Once the car sits on the lot for 45days they lose half the profit they could have gotten and once its 90+ days on the lot, they gain nothing from holdback.
Thats why if i opt for the wrx i plan to order mine from factory so i get all the options i want and i can set the price prior to ordering it. Which ofcourse i'll bring up my knowledge of the holdback. Sometimes its easier to get the best deal and bring up the holdback when you order a vehicle because they know they are gonna get 100% of the holdback since it won't sit on the lot!
genya, your from manchester, nj??

Yes, the dealer does make money even if they sell the car @ invoice. Some points already mentioned were true - e.g., the holdback $ is only awarded to the dealer if they sell the car within a certain period of time.
The true invoice cost of the car is what the dealer pays, but if they sell it (get it off the lot) then they get a holdback "award".
They also get some misc. expenses reimbursed (e.g., gas, cleaning the car's exterior up) called floorplan.
If you choose financing they offer, they get some $ for that too.
If you get the car for anything near invoice (even if it's a few hundred higher), you're in good shape

tru dat
i must agree with what has been said. being that sell subies in 808 i know that every state is different. yes i know there is a profit @ invoice (for some dealers-the high volume ones) in all honesty msrp is a price set for all 50 states. i just wish that they would do that for gas(and bread and milk!! and cereal!!) too!! that way we here in hawaii could benefit some the low gas prices!! if i sell a car @ invoice i make 100 dollars. yay
but, thats the car business! on another note - has anyone ever walked into a mercedes/bmw/lotus dealership and asked to pay invoice? just wondering(i know. . . a subaru is not a m/b/l)
