There are 3 pieces in the exhaust from the turbo back. The down -pipe connects to the turbo and has a cat in it. This piece angles down toward the ground with a flange parallel to the ground. Then the mid-pipe connects to the down-pipe , this piece also has a cat in it which is about 2 feet in length. The mid- pipe connects to the rear exhaust. So when you hear the term " cat-back exhaust" it means the exhaust runs from the mid-pipe to the tail-pipe. An axle -back is when you just basically change out the muffler! I hope this helps
