WRX/STi miles-per-tankful thread (GUESStimates only, not calculated gas mileage)

My last trip I got just over 28 MPG with my very lightly modified 2002 WRX. That was with some city driving, but mostly highway at 125km/h (about 78mph). But, here on the Canadian prairies there aren't a lot of hills. That probably helps. Gas prices suck though, I just paid 93.5 (CDN$ of course!) cents per liter for 91 octane. That works out to about $3.75 a gallon I believe.

when i first got my STi, i was getting around 200 miles per tank in the winter. Since its been broken in and it is now summer, i am seeing on average around 250 per tank, with the max I've ever seen at 350 miles (all highway). Not the best mileage for a 15 gallon tank...

I've got an 04 wrx, stock and about 10k miles. I shift at ~3k(give or take a little) and it's almost all freeway driving and I can barely get 280 out of tank. There aren't any hills or anything out of the ordinary... so you guys getting over 320 seem a little out of the ordinary on a tank. Maybe its just me.

i agree with traffic, i try to go as easy an i can in my 03 and the best i can do is 260. 320 seems a little iffy.

I get about 340 miles to a tank now... Mostly highway miles with some in town miles. I thought for sure I would get much better gas milage once my TBE was on.... but I shift now at around 4k rpms instead of 3k that I used to.

Sadly to say, it was a little over 14mpg. I would love to know how you do 260+ all the time. Trust me, I drive it like I stole it all the time. Are you making any boost at all? I run my AC on most of the time, even at night. The price you pay for living in hell! But either way, I don't race, I simply like to accelerate like I was being sling-shotted down the street. And no, I don't consider that racing, I do this little event mostly alone. I love the way it feels. I have over 52k on my 02 WRX, I'm sure that has something to do with it too.
My '02 WRX Sport Wagon (25,000 miles) has a Borla TBE, and a MBC by TXS (soon to be replaced by COBB AP stage 2!! YAY!), and stock tires/rims/suspension. I set my boost controller to a "safe" 14.5 psi, and I get to that boost pretty quickly, full throttle or not. I seem to get a pretty consistent 20 to 21 MPG. I have checked the accurate way (fill completely, set trip meter to 0, drive a lot, fill completely again, divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons replaced on the fill-up) many times now. I am conf00zled as to how you could possibly get such terrible mileage, but it seems to be so. Try getting a reading of your MPG using my method and tell us how it is. I hope you aren't REALLY at 14 MPG!! Good luck with that k thx bye.
