wrx, first car?
if you are getting a RS get the 2001. It has coupe, LSD, vents and scoop. Easier for performance mod (turbo). Personally, I think it looks better too. But I don't think 227 is too much for first car, but it depends on how old you are and how much driving experience you have.
No way man. My first car was an Acura Integra LS with 140hp. Just the fact that it was a 5spd made it feel fast as hell. Just trust me on this one, theres ALOT to learn/get used to when it comes to driving, and when you have a car for the first time it's gonna feel fast. Talk to any kid who gets his first car, he'll say something like "yeah, this things actually pretty fast!" Or "man, this thing actually smokes, it scares me!", when their car may have less than 150hp. I probably wont be able to convince you of this, i probably couldnt have convicned my self that a WRX would have been too fast (but It would have, I would probably be dead right about now lol), but believe you me, 227hp is WAY WAY too much for you to handle as you're first car. Get something semi-sporty (integra LS. 2.5RS), get bored of that (it'll take a while before you finally get bored of it and realize its not as fast as it feels at first), and then you can move up.

my first car (truck) was a chevy s-10 it was slow *** hell, but back then i thought it was sooo fast. then i got a 2000 2.5 rs that was quick i had a few g's into that one. now i have a wrx. just starting to mod it up im 19 i still think the wrx is a can be a little dangrous so i olny race people if the road is strait dry and no traffic. so far all my mods are all to improve suspenion and breaking. (i get to start the perfomance part now)
so to put an end to this i would go with a late 90's acura integra GS-R or a 2001 2.5RS if you want a subau if you want to mod it, to start make it look good improve the suspenison i hated it stock (it has way to much roll springs shocks strut bars and sway bars) then to the breaks they fade quickly at high speeds. i think the intega would be better for you much easier to keep under contol (and if you put a turbo on it say bye bye to the wrx's as you fly by) go test drive a GS-R you wont be disapointed its got some go to it.
just my $0.02

heel toe is for racing so you can break and keep the rpm's up when you **** at the sametime. learing how to drive it just takes a little practice just like anything else. you going to hate learing it cause you get pissed when you mess up. but when you do get it, it makes driving so much more fun!!!!

LoL the way the gearbox is designed it would be VERY hard to miss gears when you shift. I had driven stick maybe AT THE MOST 5 times (totaling to about 1 hour in the seat of a honda civic dx 5MT) before we test drove the wrx. When i tested it I didnt even look at the shifter or anything. The wrx feels so natural to drive it's SCARY sometimes. First car I drove was a honda civic. If you have to pay for gas do not buy a wrx. Buy a honda... they're good cars, reliable, get you where you need to go, and are cheap compared to the subarus. I love the wrx but i also like the civic. If you do get the wrx as your first car dont speed. I sped like a ***** bastard for the first 6 months I drove. Then I learned that it's stupid to do that when my older bro got 2 tickets for speeding in a relatively short time. I'm lucky it wasn't me!!! Learning manual is not terribly hard, but it takes some time to get used to. It's easy on a AWD car because it's much harder to spin your tires than it is on fwd or rwd. Be nice and behave... and don't drive fast!

Ryan, get a cheap used Impreza. There are alot of RS's going for ~$10,000, or you could go with an L model, and then save your dad all that money which would translate into more money for fun modifications
