Would you buy your WRX all over again?
So I currently own a 00 Civic Si ( see pics here: http://members15.clubphoto.com/joshu...ner-45c8.phtml ) and it's getting to the point where if I keep modding it it's not going to be very re-sellable ( is that a word?
) and I'd rather not invest tons of money into "just a Civic".
Every time I see a WRX I love it, though I've never had the opportunity to drive one.
I'd like to know if you guys could go back, would you buy your WRX all over again? And I'd also like to know what you think are the downfalls and good things about the WRX.
Please help out a potential buyer here. Thanks!

I would
even though I bought mine only a week ago. The car is addictive to drive.
I heard the downfall is the tranny.. some people claim there made of glass. But I've also read of people doing 20 or so 5krpm Clutch Dumps at a drapstrip and still come back ok.
lose some.. win some I guess.

i had a 2000 EBP Si up until 3/5. it was stolen right out of my driveway. i had to look for new cars. i knew the car was not going to come back the same way it left. i poured $6000 into my Si. luckily, i got insurance to pay for everything. i went out looking the next day. i looked at a lot of different cars. they were all in the $30k and above price range. i then went to the Subaru dealer and got such a great welcome from the sales people, i took it out for a test drive and fell in love with it. i was set on buying a black 03. the saleswoman told me they were all out of black 03's, but the 04's would be here at the end of the month. i waited for my insurance company to pay me and the day after i received my check, my WRX came in. i love that thing. i will probably never buy a different car. two days after i picked up the car, being tuesday 4/1, we had a major ice storm for the last two days. i got a chance to use my all weather package (heated mirrors, heated seats, heated wipers). the car performed to its full potential. my civic would have been all over the place. my bf is now considering selling his 2000 FBP Si and buying a WRX. it is a very impressive car and you get all your money's worth.

Although I really do love my WRX, if i could do it again i might have gotten a Nissan 350Z, even though its a bit more expensive. Thats about the only car that really attracts me, within a similar price range of the WRX. Dont get me wrong though, i love my car and my AWD. Its definately very satisfying to drive hard.

Good question.
Would have been nice if a poll had accompanied this thread.
I would still pick the WRX over any other car available when I made the purchase. With the turbo motor and AWD, it outperforms just about anything else in the price range, especially when the roads aren't track-like smooth or the weather turns bad. Lots of aftermarket parts and tuner services to choose from, although there is some stuff of questionable usefullness, too. EJ20 turbo motor is fairly easily modified for more power, while any normally aspirated motor would have a hard time ($$$) finding the same gains. Notice one of the first mods that Comptech developed for the S2000 - a 50-state legal supercharger!

I'd buy mine again... I'll have to say the worst thing about the car is these damn forums. All I can think of is dumping money into the beast and that was the exact opposite reason I bought the car for. I got rid of my 00 BMW so I could buy a house, and here I am throwin money at the WRX.. sigh. Stupid cars.
Damn you all and your mods! <shaking fist in anger>

I also just got my WRX about a week ago and I love it!!
It is a very quick car and I love driving it. The only thing I would change about the car is the tranny. It doesn't like to go into first and reverse all the time. I also would change the gearing. But the EJ20 performs like a champ. Another thing to watch out for is your gas milage. About 20mpg but that goes fast if you drive hard like me

I bought mine in may of '01 I still stand in the garage just to look at it. I've piled up 40k miles & its not a daily driver. Those are all play miles, I work in a service truck, & we drive a SUV as a family car. If I had the choice I'd deffinetly buy it agian Maybe for a better price than what I paid back then.

I just Did!
My 02 was totalled when a stupid idiot woman turned left into me at a green light. (Her fault 100%) My WRX saved me from getting hurt, if not worse. I had a slight abraision on my shin (6'4" in a small car... go figure) and sore shoulders from bracing myself. I couldn't wait to get another one. I ended up waiting 3 months so I could get an 04, but there was no question it would be another wrx. I love my new one and I loved my old one.
BTW with the gas milage, I get 22~23 on a daily basis with 50-50 highway (70+mph) town driving, and we just went to NH and back and I got 369 miles to one tank which was just over 25mpg and I was going no slower than 75 the whole way. For a sports car I would say that's pretty good milage! I would definately say it's within the 20~27 range Subaru says since you know they were driving 55mph.

I drove from tennessee to florida which is a slight constant drop in elevation and I got 30 mpg there and 26 back. As for the 350z I would never take one over a wrx. I did drive my friends and I absolutely loved it, but it doesn't have the split personality of the wrx: A 4 door family car with awd to get you places in any condition one minute and then a turbocharged street weapon the next. And for the record I've never lost a race to a 350z.
