Where to get a good bra for WRX?
Driving up 101 in NorCal this week in my 4 day old yellow Scoob and I see this white thing bouncing at me, then *CLANK*...a damn rock smacks my front end, chipps the paint and leaves a tiny dent in the grill. Not really noticable but sure sucks to have that happen to a new car.
Anyway, I'm sold on getting a cool cover for the front but I can't seem to locate any info about it. Anyone have one or know where to get one and how much would a nice one run?
thx

ok, so after a little reding I found that having a traditional front end cover interferes with the airflow for the hoodscoop. What are some alternatives to protecting my front end?
thx

You can use a bra, all you need to do is cut out the part that interferes with the snorkel part of the induction which is in the engine bay just above the grill. So this is not visible. With a sharp nife or razorblade knife it should take about 2 minutes.
I bought the "carbon fiber" look bra which was like 130-140??
No part of the bra on the top of the hood occludes anything.

Pricey, and won't really guard against BIG rocks, but little chips are covered. I got the full kit.

hey thats that clear plastic film protection, right?
how much did you get a full kit for?
i asked some guy that worked at a tinting place that did that as well, they said around 350ish, but i'm not sure if it was for the whole car or not.

happydaze-Yes, it's an adhesive-backed clear plastic 3M film that gets applied much like window tinting (only trickier as COMMANDOE said). I didn't put it on myself, I had it installed when I got my windows tinted. The shop I used wasn't one of their "approved" installers (there weren't any in my area
), so I won't get the full repaint warranty, only the replacement warranty on the Stongard.
I forget what the Stongard was by itself, something around $350-375 plus installation. If you were quoted $350 installed it's probably not the full kit. IMHO, the full kit is worth it since you get front bumper/hood, scoop leading edge, side mirrors, door edges and door handle inserts.
Also, on my black wagon it's practically invisible when the car is clean. I usually have to point it out to people. Even when the car is dirty you usually can't see the edges unless you're within 5 feet or so.

If you are still looking for a clear bra kit like StonGard for your ride. I can help you out. I just purchased an '02 WRX this last week. The first thing next week we will be designing a paint protection kit for my vehicle that will compare to the coverage of the stongard kit, but a lot cheaper.
I have been involved with StonGard for years and have created my own comapny while selling the StonGard kits. We have come up with a line of kits that are far less in cost without disappointing anyone with coverage.
You can PM me or just check us out for details.

for your info...
a few years ago, i got a bra for my car. after a few months, i noticed that the paint under the bra didn't fade, while the rest of the car's color faded. There was a distinct line where the bra was installed once I removed it. Someone told me you're supposed to remove it once in a while just to even out the color, but of course it was too late by then.
I don't know if things have improved since then, but I'd be careful about installing a bra.

Also with a traditional bra if you get any vibration with dirt it can damage your paint. I was looking into buying one just for my trips up to the snow, but alas I am still poor and don't have the money to go skiing anyways.
