What oil and am I beating on the car?
Couple items:
I have 756 miles on my car (03 WRX) and have been at 90 – 100 several times. Is this a bad thing to do to the engine? I am not try to get to that speed quickly just on the highway driving along and 65 then hit the gas about a half inch and boom I’m at 95.
Second, what type of oil would you recommend when the time approaches?
This car is awesome and I can’t wait to go past the 4,000 rpm limit!
Thanks,

As long as you don't go over 4,000 RPM you're still within the limits of the recommended break-in, though 90-100 does seem a bit excessive for break-in. I dunno.
As for oil, the manual says 5W-30. I changed mine for the first time tonight at 1700 miles with Castrol GTX 5W-30, and plan on switching to Mobil 1 of the same weight at the next interval. The bolt and filter were b*tches to get off, and the crush washer was painted onto the bolt, but they all came off eventually. For $6 you can get a Subaru OEM filter and a crush washer at http://www.subaruwrxparts.com or 12 for $60. Good stuff.

hey cabal, it's a good thing you noticed that there was a washer on there. they come painted right to the drain plug from the factory, and yeah they suck to get off!
i really like mobil 1. only after your break in period though. does the manual really say 5/30? i do not have a wrx, but have changed oil on many and we have always just filled it w/ 10/30. i guess it depends a little on where you are driving. also as cabal says, take the time to get the oem filters. they just fit and work much better than any others.

The manual has a chart that shows outside temperatures and effective ranges for 5W-30 and 10W-30, but since it recommends 5W-30 and that appears to fit well with my area, I went with that. I probably wouldn't have noticed the crush washer painted on there had I not read up on it ahead of time and ordered filters with washers.
