What Gas Station
who ever is the cheapest, but 89 or better, there is a place near me that sells like 110 120 octane for like a $1.90, they only thing i heard about it though is that it will burn your engine up, cause it has no additives in it, there are no like lubricants in it. do not kill me if i am wrong it is just waht was explained to me.

The best thing is to try out the different stations and find out for yourself. I used to get the cheapest I could find, but then I tried 76 and got more miles to the tank. Tried all of the major ones and got better results than the cheap ones.

the f1 cars dont use shell pump fuel though it is a special blend sold only to them.
in aust we dont have chevron or 76.
we have shell optimax 98 octane.
bp ultimate 98 octane.
mobil synergy 99 octane and the best fuel there is but i cant get it in qld only in sydney which is 1000 km away.

I used to work at a 76 station...
hey come to think of it, it had a service/smog station, six pumps(one on each side = 12), and when i was working there we didnt have any snacks only drinks. Was kinda small, but it was a full service gas station, still is to a degree. i found that funny that some people dont do there cuz it isnt inviting...then went on to describe the station just like the one i used to work at.
As for the gas, most of the 76s in my area are supplied by Van Dyk industries and sometimes charge a tiny bit more than other stations, but not all the time. Van Dyk is very good in their formulation process so the gas comes out just a bit better. I was originally told this but found out that the gas is that good. At the station that i was working at, myself, one of the other workers and the gas delivery man took some of the 87 and 91 and tested it with an fuel tester and came up with some suprising results.
the readings are as follows
rated octane - tested octane
87 - 88.4
91 - 92.7
we then mixed the two half and half as to get an idea of what 89 would be (note that I didnt know the exact mix of 87 and 91 to get 89 so we just put half 87 and half 91)
89 - 90.5
I tested the fuel on several different occasions after that and the results varied by about 0.1 accross the board.
I try to fill up there when i can, but my civic is stock 'cept for an exhaust so i dont really car what gas i put in it most of the time.
I just tested the gas cuz i was extremely board one night at work and that was it. As for the prices at that station, if they advertised what the real octane of the fuel was, it would've justified the price...

well 76 is only one of the few brands that are using ethanol for their octane enhancer and the rest of the brands (chevron, shell, etc.) still uses mtbe. theres really no big differences between them except mtbe is a little cheaper but it does hurt the enviroment a little. so eventually everyone is gonna stop using mtbe and go back to ethanol.
and it also depends on what gas station you get it from. they all pretty much get the oil/gas from the same manufacturer and each brand kinda just adds their additives and some gas station will also add some in their tank. i have tried all of the 3 major brand here in CA (76, chevron, shell) i used about 3 full tanks on each brand and i found my car to like shell gas a little better but i got better gas mileage with 76. i found my car a little sluggish with chevron but it could be just the station that i went to had bad gas.

people have different opinions on what gas is best. my feeling is that you should go to any MAJOR gas station near you. for me, that means i won't fill up at any station other than shell, chevron, and 76. my experience with shell and 76 has been pretty good...
i was on 76 for a year and just switched to shell to see how it would feel. so far, there hasn't been any difference, really.

The techron in chevron is a cleaning additive, therefore it takes away power. Use 76. It is the best. it is the cleanest. Forget Arco, their gas is cheap. Shell should be fine also. I am new to the subaru world, but in the world of american cars ( and my gear head friends) they all us 76. It seems to be the best for performance. my 2 cents...feel free to correct me, but it wont be a correction..just a opinion
