wagon vs. sedan

Is there any noticable difference in handling/performance of the sedan vs. the wagon?

I am just curious because I noticed that the wagon is a little bit taller and the track is a bit narrower, but the overall curb weight is about 50 pounds less, also, better aerodynamics for the wagon would probably play a part, right?

sedan has a slightly larger track, a 20mm rear sway bar vs. the wagon's 17mm. The spring rates might be slightly different as well. The wagon is closer to 50/50 front/rear weight balance, whereas the sedan is a little more weighted toward the front.

From what I've read there is very little difference in handling between the two.

Nothing to do with handling (directly), but the wagon has more headroom.

The wagon is actually about 100 lbs heavier and the sedan has a bigger rear sway bar. In spite of that, the performance/handling characteristics are still relatively similar.

Bone stock, the sedan is just slightly ahead of the wagon performance-wise. But, given identical mods, the wagon catches up fast due to better weight balance.

Weight difference is 80 pounds. Check the specs online.

SubieGal posted on NASOIC that sedan's with a production date after 01/03 have a 17mm rear sway bar, just like the wagon. The WRX sedan's built before that got the 20mm rear bar.
She is a reliable source, imo.

Looks like Subaru is trying to dumb down the "snap-oversteer" and go for more understeer (safer).

SubieGal is usualy right about technical stuff, but she'll say anything to hear herself talk. Assuming she is right, I'm not totally surprised by Subaru doing htis, both for the safety factor, and because the STi has -surprise!- a 20mm RSB. It's also to make the sTi that much better than the WRX.
