tuning required?
with the vf43 will I require tuning for the car to work properly, I don't mean to get the most out of the turbo but just to let the car run normal, or can i just put it in and use the car with out seeing any difference in the way the car usually responds.

I had a 06 WRX that I upgraded in 08 to a VF43 along with stage 2 upgrades. In my research for the turbo the VF43 was brought in after Subaru starting having problems with VF39's exhaust/hot side cracking do to a thin wall construction. So yes the VF43 with the thicker exhaust/hot side replaced the VF39's on the 2007 STI models. Performance wise they are the same, sure with a custom tune you might be able to get a few more HP's out of the VF43, but for all intentional purposes they are the same, intake/cold side and internals / blades.
If you want to stay stock defiantly get VF43. But they are not so cheep and if you want to upgrade it would be good to save/ spend a bit more and go bigger. *Given you have all the other mods to support that, Exhaust, AP etc...
That is my 2 cents
Let us know what you decide

VF43 has a lightly different wastegate. And they still suffer from the same cracking issue, just not as often. If you don't think a $300 is cheap, then you probably shouldn't be modifying cars.

Thanks guys for the help. By the way the reason why I'm considering changing the turbo is because sometimes when I start the car and start driving the turbo does not work (no boost no spooling sound, nothing) and out of no where it starts working, sometimes it doesn't work at all during my whole driving around, any idea why this could happen? before I go out and spend that much for something possibly unnecessary.

Yeah I do have a boost gauge and it shows 0 boost, and my turbo has always been really noticeable when spooling that's why it's easy for me to notice it not working. By the way yesterday after driving for a while with no boost I finally got tired pulled over and started hitting the turbo with a metal bar got back on the car started driving and I had boost!! but only til I got to my destination, I got there turned the car off and when I was gonna drive back turbo was not working again. I can't figure out whats wrong.

Something does not sound right here, Turbos do not just start and or stop working without any engine check light / error codes or even going into limp mode! During my VF43 upgrade I forgot to reattach a vacuum hose and as soon as I go out of "negative boost" (about 3K RPM) the car gave multiple errors indicating vacuum leak.
I can not believe your car is not giving any errors and or not going into limp mode from running to rich.
I would check all your hoses, Waste Gate for movement and also your blow off valve. Or bring it to a Subaru mechanic to diagnose. I highly doubt your turbo is bad and getting a hammer only helps your frustrations.
