Trouble with smog
The WRX I'm looking at is having one small problem. It has an 04' STi swap that has been stage reffed and has the sticker to prove it. Recently, it threw a check engine light for a cracked hose. We fixed it and went to get it smogged. Everything went great. But when the functional check came around, it failed the MIL portion. Everything else passes. The note said "this car failed the MIL/check engine light test due to failure to have the car go through all OBD self tests." They said to put between 50-100 miles on it then try again. We did that. Se problem. The guy said keep putting more miles on it. We had out 350 miles on it, tried again and the same problem came up. I'm confused as to why it's not passing this one thing. Can anyone help !? Or provide contact information to someone who can illegally pass.
My only guess is that it hasnt fully cycled so therefore it still has a incomplete. If you hook up a obd2 reader it wont show any code, but you can check to see if it still has a incomplete code that hasnt fully cylce for it to not show up.
Yeah it all depends on what the mil was. When my CEL came on, on my is300 it took close to 400 some miles for it to not have 2 incomplete. I think for obd2 you can have 1 incomplete to smog but its border line.
