Question Towing an AWD Car on 2 wheels??

I have to tow my WRX about 1000 miles this coming weekend. Since I don't have a proper tow vehicle, I will have to use a tow dolly, which only raises the front wheels off of the ground. Someone posted back in February that you could disconnect the rear driveline to tow this way. Can anyone tell me how it is done?

Also, can I accomplish the same thing by disconnecting the rear axles at the hub? This would isolate the entire driveline, including the rear diff.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

do not tow the vehicle on two wheels, just find a way to get all four off the ground.

you can disconect some stuff to do it, but imo it would be better to find a way to tow it off the ground

I have posted this topic on several WRX web sites and am getting the same response. "Don't do it, but I'm not sure why you shouldn't". I would like a response from someone who has definitive knowledge on the subject please.

If I have the front wheels in the air, and the rear halfshafts disconnected, the entire driveline will be isolated. The rear wheels will be free wheeling - not connected to the drivetrain in any way.

This is not going to be like a typical tow truck deal, where they just hook up 2 wheels and drag away, destroying the center differential. I am talking about a complete disconnection of the rear wheels from anything but the rear hub.

BTW, my car is a 5-speed. so the fuse trick won't work.

in theory then it sounds like it should work. i am not sure how difficult it would be to disassemble everything though

No, I didn't know that. That could be the answer that I'm looking for. Any idea about who sells this type of thing?
