Ceej, I understand, but it might be better to use some other abbreviation than a word that just so happens to be kinda racist. Maybe JDM? Or "from Japan"? Or just "Japan"? Just suggestions

OK back on topic...

I think silver is a little bit harder to spot paint ships...YAY!

I did notice however that the paint is still thin like Allie McBeal.

2nd place goes to Toyota...my mom's '99 Corolla's paint is just horrid and I take care of that thing too.

Ford actually uses a pretty good amount of paint.

My mother-in-law has a '00 Nissan Quest and the paint is coming off in quarter-size flakes, right off the primer. On my wife's '98 Honda Civic the clear coat burned off all the horizontal surfaces of the car within 3 years and the paint on the roof and trunk oxidized all the way down to the primer layer. One of my co-workers has a 2005 brand new Hyundai Tiberon, and he got out of the car too quick one day and scratched the car with his wedding ring -- all the way through the black down to the white primer, by just barely grazing it.

My point is that thin, fragile paint is not a Subaru-specific problem; a LOT of Japanese and American cars have this problem, and it has a lot to do with the move away from hazardous solvent-based paints towards less nasty, more eco-friendly paints that was begun in the middle '90s.

From Autopia's Car Care section of their site:
First, modern car paint systems are no longer petroleum-based coatings. All new car paint systems are water-based urethanes.
Check out the whole article, it is very interesting:
