Subaru Ownership......Short time, many miles.

If you work for a large UNIX Server maker named after a big ball of fire, and you work in the Systems Migration group in the SF Bay Area, you're gonna put a big hunk of miles on your Subie.

My brief automotive history:

1967 Camaro SS (1984-1986) 4 speed, black, lowered, 350 .030 with Z-28 heads and a very hot cam. 4 barrell, Edelbrock, Manley. In 1984......This hot rod got me MANY girls in a rich-kid high school. Of course, I'm good lookin' too......;-) Started with 28,000 miles, Driven 35,000 miles.

1979 280ZX (1986-1988) Cam, throttle body, custom headers, upgraded suspension, wheels, tires. Started with 73,000 miles, Driven 31,000 miles.

1988 Acura Integra RS 5 door (1988-1992) Lowered, Tokikos, Jackson Racing header, Bassani exhaust 15" Enkeis with 195/50s. Started new, driven 93,000 miles.

1990 Ford Taurus SHO (1992-1994) . Borla Exhaust (30 extra HP for SURE), Eibach Prokit Springs, Tokiko Shocks (another massive improvement). Started with 22,000 miles, driven 48,000 miles.

1988 Ford Mustang Oregon Police Issue. (1994-1995) Cleanest car imagineable. Most newly prepped new cars were not this clean. Eat off it cleanlieness. Global West subframe connectors, Maier Racing strut tower brace, B&M short throw shifter. Started with 41,000 miles, driven 22,000 miles. I hated this car. Quick, handled OK after the frame stiffening, but it had no room for anything and everything broke. Either a bad period or a piece of ****.

1995 VW Golf GL 5 speed (1995-2000). 15"s, 195/50's, Neuspeed sway bar, Neuspeed exhaust. Bought new, driven for 133,000+ miles until mercifully totalled from the rear in 9/2000. Broken sunroof, A/C fan, loose suspension bolts, but the drivetrain held together. Yawn......

1997 Subaru Legacy L 5 speed (2000-present). 16X7 Raceline RL-7s, 205/55/16s. Started with 53,000 miles, driven 92,000 miles. Best car I've ever owned. Except for the cupholder, rattle f-ing free. 2 timing belts, 2 water pumps, tires twice, brakes twice, replaced front rotors, ORIGINAL rear rotors. Probably has 125hp vs. 137 at this stage, but I'll give it that! The 4-cyl. Toyota 4-Runner of passenger cars. Here comes my 2003 WRX within a week.

For the first time ever (19 years), I feel the twinge of brand loyalty.

F-ing tranny better hold up! ;-)
