Thumbs up Subaru Drive Performance Magazine

I just received the premiere issue of Subaru Drive Performance Magazine. It's going to be put out 2x yearly and is published by Subaru. If you don't get it a 2 year subscription is free from http://www.driveperformancesubaru.com. It's got some interesting stuff. In the last few pages there is an SPT cat-back system made by Bosal. Quote taken from the article "Installing this system will increase horsepower by a small amount on its own, along with giving the car a healthier exhaust sound. More important, though, is that it prepares the vehicle for engine modifications that require a free-flowing exhaust to be effective." How cool is that coming from a vehicle manufacturer.

Any engine mods are assumed to be for off-road use, only.

When you say engine mods are you speaking about exhaust as well? Another quote "The engineering staff at Subaru is involved with the development of every SPT item so that the fit and function are correct. Subaru engineers ran the proposed Bosal exhaust through four tests:" 1: Drive-by noise test (SAE J1470) <= 80 decibles on a drive by between 40-60 mph. 2: Static Test (SAE J1169) <= 90 decibles at idle 3: Horsepower + increase 4: Static Emissions measure emissions at idle. The SPT system from Bosal passed all 4 tests.

Another quote " Our WRX Performance Exhaust System came from Subaru Performance Tuning. The SPT system installs behind thhe catalytic converter, so we weren't going to have to deal with emissions of warranty issues."

Check out http://www.spt.subaru.com/microsites/spt/home.sptmain. There is no disclaimer stating that the exhaust if for off-road use. I also checked with the dealership where I bought my car and they said it would be warrantied and they can/will do the install. FYI...

Engine mods as far as bolt-ons to the engine itself.

The old SPT axle-back system came with a disclaimer that the part was intended for off-road use, only. If Subaru claims the new Bosal-made part is legal, that's great. Under CA law, any catback exhaust is legal but Subies are pulled over fairly regularly even though almost all marketed catback exhausts meet or exceed CA standards for noise and their effect on emissions is negligible. The SPT catback is probably quieter than most aftermarket systems.

Any way for Canadians to receive this magazine? I tried to subscribe online but only US addresses accepted... same with Drive magazine (www.drivesubaru.com).

Where's the love for Canada??

I would shoot them over an email. It won't hurt to ask.

Drive and Drive Performance magazines are publications of Subaru of America. Apparently, they only include the U.S.A. in what they call America.

Subaru Canada has no such publication for their customers so maybe SOA would be kind enough to send it to Canadian enthusiasts via First Class Mail (they send it to U.S. customers in bulk discount by Standard Mail).

Yea... I can only wish at this point

Fired off an email to Drive magazine off their website, but I doubt anything will come from it. <sigh>

well this settles that...

to my first email:
Drive is published by Subaru of America, Inc. so it is not available in
Canada. We do however have the website at drivesubaru.com where you can see
all of what is in the magazine and more. Thank you for your interest in
Drive, we hope you enjoy the website.

Sincerely,

Wendy Schrlau
Subaru of America
and my second request:
I do apologize, but we are unable to mail Drive outside of the United
States.

Best Wishes,

Wendy Schrlau
Subaru of America
guess that settles it....
