Stereo swap (x-post...sorry)
I haven't gotten a whole lot of love for this topic over in the stereo forum, so I thought I'd ask here. This may be too basic for that area....
I'm curious as to weather I can easily swap my 6-disc in-dash unit (stock) into my wife's '99 Legacy (outback) wagon. I'm interested in running an i-pod as my primary music source, so I'd ditch the 6-disc. I would most likely use her single disc HU so that I'd have an am/fm tuner. As you can perhaps tell, I'm no car stereo-o-phile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

All Subarus have used the same wiring harness since 93, so your 6-disc will work in her car fine, assuming it has space for the double-din player.
As for using the i-Pod, stay away from the FM broadcasters, their quality is horrible (unless it's one of the new ones that uses a pass-through cable that plugs inbetween the antenna and the headunit, though I haven't used one of these myself). I'd go with a decent headunit (<$200) and a Y-adapter for the i-Pod.

If the units are the same size, sorry I am not familiar with the legacy, but any hu will work in any car as long as you have a place to put it. You may have to splice wires but that is easy. I would just make sure the HU's are the same size.

Well, why don't you give yourself a good solid hour, and take yours off and try to put it on on hers!

If it doesn't work out, then put everything back, and try some other options.
