SRT4 spanks WRX
So today I'm in the local Stop and Shop and I notice that the "Mopar" magazine is showing the SRT4. They have some article on on the SRT4 vs the WRX. In the standard non biased fashion they make quite a few "entirely accurate" statements.
"the WRX has the advantage at the takeoff.....but at the 100ft mark the SRT4 is pulling away from the WRX like a Viper passing a school bus"
"by the 1/4 mile the SRT4 is easily 3 to 4 car lengths ahead."
"by the 2nd 1/4 mile the WRX driver had to squint to see the SRT4"
Obviously we have all taken up with the wrong cars... and seeing as how the car is going to be such a hot item we are probably all stuck.
Ohh if I only had that "factual" article a few months ago.

I read the Sport compact car magazine, and when they tested the wrx in the 1/4 mi it was 14.1 sec and the SRT was 14.2, Yes the SRT is a fast car and has a big 2.4 litre turbo engine, from a rolling start its prabably faster than a wrx stock for stock, but i already have almost 10k invested in my wrx so im sticking with it.

The WRX is such a nice, quality car in my opinion, compared to the SRT-4. Just like someone else said, there is more to a car then just straight line speed. If that is the whole reason why someone bought a WRX, then they picked the wrong car to begin with, they should have just bought an SS, WS6, Mustang GT or some other car built for that. I don't really like the SRT-4 that much. It has .4 liters more, and is only pushing two wheels, and it barely if at all will beat a WRX, I wouldn't call that a great car. Plus, it doesn't even have a front LSD. I don't get why all of the magazines are already doing all of their comparisons of the SRT-4 right now, and how I think it was SCC rated it their car of the year. The car hasn't even been mass produced and sold to the public yet. We will wait and see how it is when it actually comes out, and then see how it is in a few years, when things start going wrong.

Oh goody! See ya later Subaru suckers! I'm off to buy the "next best thing"! Finally! Dud has returned to the turbo market with the Neon SRT-4! I'll have the fastest vehicle in the world! I was going to wait for the factory twin turbo Kia Rio, but screw it, I gotta have the "next best thing" now! My GSR was cool for a while, my WRX was cool for about 2 seconds, my new turbo Dud Neon will rule FOREVER! YOU WILL ALL BE JEALOUS!

If all you care about is 1/4 mile times, you definitely should go with the turbo Neon over a WRX.
I think the SRT4 looks like a great car on paper, and I never thought my WRX would be the fastest thing on the block. It's got enough power stock to be fun and it enables me to do stuff I find fun...it's all about what YOU want out of YOUR car.

the srt-4 is junk. like aforementioned, its a front drive puller, automatic hands down for me.
the only imports i have ever liked were either rwd or awd, and thats for a reason. how is this thing going to handle, is it even close to the all-around performer that our cars are?
i think the srt-4 is going to cater to the ricer, while the wrx is still going to be for the performance minded driver.
the srt4 will NEVER have the same kind of legacy or respect as the impreza. and besides, once we start modding, i can bump up the liter on my block too  then where will the srt4 be
its good to see that MOST people on this board bought their car for a reason, while OTHERS obviously got it because Car and Driver told them too.

Oh my God.....
I cant even pick one thing to reply to. My first post was bathed in sarcasm, hence the reason I put all the bull**** in quotes. I guess I forgot the "Sarcasm Engaged".
For the record I will own a bus pass before I own a NEON. I didnt buy my car based strictly on its 0 to 60 or 1/4 mile speed (both faster than SRT4) but it did have somethings to do with it, included was the AWD, reliability, and the ability to not want to off myself while behind the wheel.
Cmon people - "In the standard non biased fashion they make quite a few "entirely accurate" statements." doesn't clue anyone in.

I'll give Dodge credit every now and then they come out with something good. Its just been a while since they came out with the Viper. Now if only they'd of built that damn Dodge Razor so us RWD, 6spd M/T fans can have a car. A 2.4L turbo RWD car to sit beside my 2.5L turbo AWD 2.5RS

I apologize for my earlier sarcasm.
The Chrysler Corp. has been known to "one up" the competition in the past. In the 60's, the Plymouth Roadrunner was cheap and fast. In the 80's, the Omni GLH and turbo Daytonas could easily compete with the Mustangs and Camaros. I think the Neon SRT is the next step. Cheaper and faster (which is what many of it's target audience wants) than many of the popular youth cars today. I my opinion, however, this Neon will mark the end of the world as we know it. If Dodge produces these in unlimited numbers and at low prices, these things will fall into the hands of the typical street race ricer heathens that will use it's power for evil. The riceboy flyby / street race / mine's faster than yours types will actually have a fast car. Am I worried? Do I sound it? I bought my WRX for $25k+ because I wanted a fun, practical car to drive everyday as I restore my Torino. For the same price I could have had a Z28, which in my opinion would be better suited for 1/4 miles and speed competitions, but I wanted the practicality of all wheel drive, a 4 door for dog hauling and the fun of a turbo. If you're faster than me, GOOD, there will always be someone out there faster than you. I will save my money for the Torino and it's 460, which will be my 1/4 terror in future. Meanwhile, I will drive my slow, all wheel drive WRX and not fear driving the snow, rain, etc.
BTW, I am also concerned that if the compact car market becomes "too fast" the insurance companies will get wise and start raising the insurance of all who drive these cars. Much like what happened to the muscle cars of the early 70's. The cars were fast and cheap. The kids bought them, raced them, wrecked them and the insurance companies, crash standards and fuel prices teamed up and killed the entire market. Yes, by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.
