The Subaru WRX STi is set for release in 2003. It will be shipped to most dealers in the spring. The most noticeable difference will be the exterior. It will have larger headlamps, and a bigger hood scoop. It will have a smaller steering wheel, for easier driving. The engine was improved by changing the shape of the intercooler water spray nozzle and the air baffle plate inside the air scoop. Most of the cars will be in the popular Pearl Ridge Blue, but they are making a new bright red color also. Pictures are available in the January 2003 issue of Super Street magazine. However, in a previous issue of Sport Compact Car, the Lancer Evo VII smoked the STi.

As to which would win a performance shootout, that's anybody's guess right now, but this year is certainly going to be interesting!

I'll skip the US Evo. Not about to deal with Mitsu of America when it comes to warranty work or repairs. I'll get a Evo3 crate engine from G-Force in Japan and drop it into the 1G GSX for a fraction of the cost. Well that or slap a turbo kit on a motorcycle.
