(should I buy an) '06 WRX or STI?
06 WRX or STi??
First I'd like to say HELLO!!! And that i've been a suby fan for years!! Believe me when I say i'm a fan cause I've actually got into fights with evo lovers even though they're both great cars.. I just love suby's
I know this question might come across as WTF!?? But i've been doing lot's of research on suby's, mainly cause i want one so bad -_- but i realized the 06's both have 2.5boxer engines, and i was thinking these:
WRX is around 6-8k cheaper.
Eventually i'm going to upgrade suspension (even from the STi)
one comes with 5 and other comes with 6 gear (I travel on the highway quite often)
WRX are more potent????
It'll cost less than 2k to make the WRX just as fast or faster than the STi?
The 06 STi can't get a reflash? RenTek but that costs lot's..
Can you guys tell me what the main differences are AS FAR AS when it comes to upgrades.. i'm so confused..
I'm planning on trading my car in to get one..
I know I sound like a noob, but I'm not an idiot who goes around racing people on the street or highways. (sometimes)

The WRX and STi are much more different than you may think. Sure, a couple thousand dollars can make a WRX as faster or faster on a drag strip than an STi. But you will be closer to the limits of the WRX transmission (STi 6-speed is MUCH stronger and has the shorter gearing). Then you factor in the suspension (you mentioned that you'd be swapping them out with the WRX or the STi, so this may not be as much of an issue). Brembo brakes are much stronger than the '06 WRX brakes (which have been upgraded from the '05 WRX brakes). Then you have the DCCD which, in the hands of a skilled driver, can make a difference.
Fuel economy and auto insurance prices are the main disadvantages to the STi (well, maybe the wing too, but that's up to you to decide).

Just go STi if you have any thought at all that you might like it better, will just save you the trouble.
I got an 05 WRX and love it so much, still do just my wife drives it now. I was always thinking to myself "I should have got the STi". So when the 06's came out I sold my wifes car and gave her the WRX and went down and got the STi.
Just save yourself the trouble and get the STi :P

If you can really afford the STi...get the damn STi!
4080 is right...it would cost too much to make the WRX the equal (in all aspects) of the STi.
Then again, you could get the ultimate form of Impreza...the '02-'03 Bug Eye...they own all the others no doubt!

I think you have to ask yourself what you are trying to get out of a car. There's no question that STi is a much better car than WRX, and if you are going to make a WRX into a STi you should just get the latter. However, if you are not an extreme racer who needs to push a car to its limit, or if you just want a fun and well-performing car to drive, WRX should be the choice. Putting new tires, suspension, and stage 2 AP on an 06 WRX will make it a very fun car to drive. Also, the insurance + maintenance for the WRX is much lower, and if you are young that might be something to consider. I am 24, making 70k+ a year and can totally afford a STi, but I am satisfied enough with my 05 WRX. You just have to know your needs. Oh and go test drive the 06 WRX to see if it satisfies you.
Your budget will tell you what you should get. If you consider monthly bills of the car, gas and premiums on insurance, that should determine the difference. Although, the STI is a much better car to begin with (modability, etc.). So if you can afford that, then why not?!
Or a WRX and make it fast for less as stated above.
