Rumour: "Lower price" version of 07 STI

Heard today that along with the '07 STI Limited there will be a "lower price STI." My guy says it should MSRP around $29,900. I'm hoping it's comparable to the idea behind the Evo RS. I'm REALLY hoping it's a USDM Spec C.

I figure to lower the price, SoA has to pull things off the car. No HID, etc. This leads to lighter weight and all that good stuff.

I also heard it was limited production.

I'm figuring, at worst, they may apply the WRX TR philosophy to this rumoured STI. I got the news from my local sales manager. He's not the BS'ing type. He neither said "definitely coming out" or "definitely this price." I've know him over 5 years. He just tells me what he knows/hears.

I'm reporting what I heard from him as I find it interesting.

I am a salesman at a Suby dealer and will be going in about a month to drive all the '07's in St Louis. I will let you know when I return. I read everything from Subaru, watch all the boards, talk to the reps when they come in... et. al.

Heard nothing at all about STI's except the limited run of Steel Grey/Pearl White LTD's... But an STI TR is a concept, will give you that!

I think you guys are talking about the new '07 STI "Stealth" models?

They had a quick little picture with a heading in Subie-Sport's June's issue page 20.

Word for word; Quote " Want STI speed and power without garish looks? Subaru listened and will make 800 of these limited edition "Stealth" modles as a 2007 modle year. " End quote. Hope the FBI doesn't come a kick down my doors for this.

The picture shows the new 06 modle but with no wing and fogs.

No that one has black leather, sunroof all the bells and whistles. 400 Pearl White/400 Steel Grey... these will be more $$$ then the 'standard' STI.

Maybe it will be something akin to the spec C.

The spec C I believe is a cheaper faster version than the regular STI. That's being quite wishful I know but after all Mistubishi has done it for several years with their RS version... a cheaper EVO.

I think this STi is aimed for those who hated the big wing and want something more than the WRX but not as flashy as the STi. if this were liek the Spec C, they should just give us a more powerful STi with elss option like delete radio delete wing and a bunch of stuff. The "TR" was aimed for the Spec C crowd me thikns with less power. I remember seeing on the japanese website a Spec C came with cheapo wheels without rims, they were like hubcap wheels.

From what I've seen on the forums, the WRX TR is selling well, so a TR STI might be a hit.
