Reversed Intake?
Reversed Intake?
I know that in WRC cars they move the engine back. But why do they turn the intake manifold around. Is it for shorter piping to the intercooler?
Could you do this modification yourself and would it serve a purpose?

how much of a trouble is it to set it up like that. I have seen other Japanese tuners do the same. Is it to much of a hastle because there is not alot of performance aspect to it. Mostly cosmetic? Only thing i can think of is less turbo lag cause of shorter piping...eh?

Any time you turn the direction of airflow, you create a restriction. If you have a front mounted intercooler, and you can get it to line up with the center of the engine, It is the most efficient path.
However, I don't know if the intake manifold is symettrical. Most cars are not.
In that case, a smooth path (VERY SMOOTH-mandrel bent piping) you will be fine putting a front-mount intercooler, and routing to enter behind the engine (pick-up the Sport Compact car with the tuned WRX vs STI- the black WRX has a front mounted intercooler all piped up.
I hope this gives you some good info
