i have a v1 and its the greatest thing. if you don't want to spend that much the other top 2 are the passport 8500 and the bel 980. both are very good. i don't have any experience with the passport, but the bel 980 i will vouch for as working great.
i definatly like the v1 better than the bel 980 though

The V1 is definitely, the best. The price reflects it, but it is worth it. The Passport 8500 is a good less expensive alternative. I've seen a few on sale with $50 rebates, so you can get a good deal.
FYI when i had the V1 in my car and a friend had the 8500 we would usually get enough notice within time to slow down. The 8500 appeared to have more false notices and the sensitivity wasn't as great. But, there was still enough warning to give you time to slow down...

www.radartest.com and i think one more site said the that the passport 8500 was better than the V1 but car and driver vouched for the V1 everytime the 2 were compared. I personally have the passport because of the price and it hasnt failed me yet.

Hi guys,
I am a newbe and I was wondering is it legal or ilegal to use a radar detector in CA? I will drive my 04 WRX back and forth between LA and San Jose once a week in the next month for a year. So the radar dector is very important for me and I bet it will save a some $$$. I might get V-1. Thanks for yor reply.

I have the passport 8500 and the Z3 shifter, the shifter has paid for itself twice over already in less than 2 months, and if I am not mistaken in the advanced mode you can set the sensitvity level per frequency, I still need to do that, I'll tinker with it this weekend and let you know

Recently(in the last 6 months), on three seperate occasions, once in the Ocala area once in Bunell and once in Flagler I have been
zapped by unmarked black FHP(or county, maybe) cruisers using X-band.
All of these have happened in rural areas, and I would have been TOAST if I didn't have X-band...
BEWARE in central Florida......
