When i'm low on fuel as in my light almost going on, does that technically deplete performance in my car? Especially since it's a turbo as well? It would make sense since the more you push the car the more fuel the car eats?

 

Not sure what you're asking, but it tentatively can damage the pump if the tank gets too low.

Also when low, gas sloshing under acceleration might go outside of the pump's reach, cutting off your fuel, which is best avoided.

There is approximately half a gallon (someone can probably pipe up with the official figure) left when the light comes on, fuel enough to hopefully get to the next station.

While not normally a fan of ignorance, I think it best here not to know exactly how much you can squeak by, just keep up the paranoia and fill up regularly.

The easy thing would be to just not drive it until the light. I never go below 1/4 tank.

Yikes, I always assumed there was over a gallon left when the light came on.

 

I have 16.9 gallon tank. Safe to assume it gets to 16.5 when the pump turns off. My fuel light comes on at 13 gallons used. I know this because if I wait for it to turn on and then immediately stop. I fit in about 13 gal. Means it comes on for me with 3.5 gal. Left in the tank. I have a 2013 wrx 4 door

 

Welcome, and in *any* car, fuel cut = bad.

Imagine you're doing any random thing and your oxygen cuts out, even for a second. Depending on what you're doing, you might trip or hit something. Less consequential usually as a person, could be bad business in a 3500+ pound car going at any speed.

Inconclusive. My logic is my when I fill up after seeing the low light, it's about 14.5 gallons, and I figured for round number's sake it might be an even 15 gallon tank.

Especially if you have a more complicated fueling setup, keep it tanked up yo.

 

My car did not come with one but perhaps the manual says how much fluid is left when the light comes on.

 

02/03 WRX has a 15.9 gallon tank. Fuel light comes on at 1.2 gallons.

Ive had fuel starvation 20-30 times in the last year at the track. Only happens on looong right hand high-g turns. Anything 1/2 a tank or less and I can starve the pump if I hang the turn well, 1/4 tank or less and it starves fuel every lap on one turn in particular (thunder hill). Hasn't seemed to be much of an issue so far, stock 2L long block and hasn't blown up yet so you will prob be fine hitting cut a couple times if it were to happen. Best to have it not happen though.

 

My old e36's fuel pump would start squeaking one i was on less than 1/4 tank. And I would also have power loss lol
