Power Packages

Can anybody share some sites that have good power packages for 02 - 03 wrx's?

Has anyone ever delt with www.vishnutuning.com ? Are they good? I'm thinking about purchasing their Stage Two (v350) package once I get my WRX. Is this a good idea?

Check out their vendor section on this site, they are highly reccomended by this board. We have a whole section devoted to WRX performance and I'm sure you will find something that suits your needs.

My personal favorites are:
-Vishnu
-Cobb
-Forced Air Tech
-And of course the random parts you piece together to make your own package.

you are on the right track. I bought my 02 wrx in march 2004 with 19K miles......if I were to do things over again I would go all out and do the stage 2, 4, 10 whatever (bigger turbo, injectors, fuel pump, turboback, intercooler) right from the start.

yes vishnu does good work. I had my ecu tuned on thier dyno and the results were great.

check the vendor/for sale forum, you can find shops that have power package specials.

Like others have said, check out Cobb Tuning, they have some very thorough and well-tested products out there. I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Their stage packages are a great option, and they are as reliable as you can get. I also couldn't recommend Vishnu enough. I have never purchased a power package from them, but I did buy their flex uppipe and intercooler hose, and the quality is outstanding. The downside is you will pay more for Vishnu products, maybe too much.

My decision, get a Cobb package, you won't be dissapointed.

the only problem with cobb is the top package on their site is 285 HP and vishnu has a 300 and 350 hp package .. and im looking to get at least 300 hp out of my car

That is a good point, if you are looking to reach a certain goal (such as 300whp), the Cobb stage 2 package might fall short by a little. BUT, they have designed that package to be very reliable, possibly sacrificing a little power. The EJ20 is strong, but remember the other components of your car might need strengthening also, the tranny, clutch, brakes, etc. From my experience, anything from Cobb is designed to work on a relatively stock car, except for the parts they require for that particular package (tbe, VF34, STi injectors, etc).

Honestly, you can't go wrong with Vishnu or Cobb. I have preferred Cobb because of their reputation and reliability. And you could also piece together a package yourself, and get a UTEC for tuning.

Ive had my 02 for 2 years now and have held off on doing any power mods. I have recently decided to start saving some money to add some power. After doing ALOT of research on this site as well as nasioc, ive decided to go with cobb. From everything i have read and from the previous posts in this thread, its pretty clear that they make very reliable products. True, you could make more power taking other routes, but for someone like me who doesnt go to the track i figure 285 @ stage 2 will be more than adequate. This is the selling point for me though, getting an accessport seems to be the most conveniant way to increase power as you buy components due to the fact that you wont need to take your car or send your ecu anywhere to get it remapped. Just my opinion take it for whats its worth to you.

You should check out our For Sale by Vendors Forum as well as our Vendor Forums

Also, check out the Reviews Section to see what other people think about certain products and get some ideas on good vendors to purchase from.

now im thinking about getting a v300 package from vishnu and IHI VF34 Turbo, STI Injectors and Walbro FP from MPJ performance ... wich is basically the same as the 350hp package from vishnu but i would save a few bills

edit: if i purchase this setup, is there anything else that i will NEED to upgrade... this car will be my daily driver btw..

I may be wrong, but if you get the Vishnu package and the extra parts on the side, you will have to reflash the ECU again to be properly tuned. Vishnu flashes your ECU, they don't send you the computer to do it yourself. It costs like an extra $350 for the XEDE ECU reflasher unit. So, it might pay to get the parts trhough Vishnu.

I also came to the same conclusion, that a Cobb package would be the safest and most reliable out there. The Accessport is very convenient as well, and there are maps available to download (for free) for a large number of setups. It all comes down to what you really want, I wanted a safe and well thought out package, something that has been tested over and over. Cobb certainly fits the bill. And you're right, 285 hp is a significant jump over stock, but still within a realm of safety for a mostly stock WRX.

I can't really think of anything else that you would absolutely need if you went with that set up. You could possibly go with a larger intercooler, like the STi i/c, but that isn't necessary. And I would stick with the stock filter, maybe drop in a K&N. My only point of advice would be to not abuse the tranny, not that it's ever a good idea to abuse the tranny, but with that much extra HP on tap it's more of a concern.
