My 02 WRX lost first gear last week. It wouldn't go into gear at all. It had always been hard to get into first, but I didn't have it check out at the dealer. Anyway, after opening up the tranny, they found that the first gear "Fork" was bent. They shipped a factory tech in to see if it was a warranty item. He said NO. Since I had 17" "racing wheels", a BOV and I belonged to SCCA [which Subaru gave me a free membership to] that the car had obviously been raced and that voided any warranty. I'm a middle aged guy and not some teenager racing every weekend. Now, if it had been 2nd or 3rd gear I would understand. But there is NO way you can "Jam" 1st gear while racing. To make a long story short, they charged me nearly $1000 to fix it. I told them to keep the car and I traded it in for something else. Plus, I told them to forget about the 04 STI that I had ordered.
If you need any major service, be sure to put your stock wheels and engine parts back on before you take it in.

man, that pisses me off! thats totall ignorance! SOA needs to do something about this "performance" issue or they or going to have a lot more pissed off customers.

The dealer is in Bloomington, IN. Royal on the Eastside.
They lead me to bleive that Subaru denied the warranty. I'm wondering know...They didn't seem to fight to hard to get me taken care of. I still think most of the blame is on Subaru. Why would they give a free membership to a racing organization like SCCA if they didn't want their cars raced?
