Talking NEW WRX Owner here

i would like to introduce myself...my name is brent and im 17 and i jus put a down payment on a 2005 wrb wrx w/ premium pkg. i live in ct and heres my story..

im still in high school but i get out in 20 days (jan 21st) and ive been a fan of the wrx before i could even drive. finally yesterday my dad and i went to the dealership of our choice after shopping around for a good deal. i was looking for either obp or wrb and found a wrb for a very good price with premium pkg which wasnt necessary but definately pimp.

so my dad doesnt want me to bring my new car to a high school where kids will fk w/ it so i have to wait until the 21st to pick it up. dealer was real cool about that and said they would bring the car in every night and leave it in on the weekends so thats cool.

i plan to do some mods but probably not until the spring/summer...

up pipe
turbo back w/ high flow cat
utec
17X8 rota torques w/ falken azenis 225/45/17
20% tint

that would bring me to fast enough for my age lol

any tips on these cars...its my 2nd car...first stick car but ill learn how to drive it

thanks for any help and positive input

Welcome to i-Club.

If you haven't already driven a manual transmission before, find someone with a car you can practice with before you get your rex. If you already know how, then the WRX is no different than driving any other modern car, other than the lack of low-end torque when under 3000 RPM. You'll get used to it.

Tire choice typo - do you mean 225/45-17"?

Congratulations on the new ride. Those are some good first mods, if I were you though, my first mods would be springs and struts. Just because I hate to see how high the WRX rides in the front, I'd get the prodrive springs with ..some aftermarket struts. Of course the rims and tires after that. Then I would get sway bars and strut tower brace. After that, I'd make the aesthetics of the car better, but of course, the WRX is already hella sexay. Clear the headlights, kartboy short shifter, front lip, rear skirts, and from there some other little things like a blue impreza badge(wellthats jsut me), and then go for power, change out the whole turbobac, maybe headers too. AFter wards, go for some of the other mods like turbo, injectors, intercooler. It's really up to you, but you have a pretty good idea. And if I were you, and if I actually had a wrx, I'd drive it all day once I got it. Just enjoy the car as much as possible stock, then once you start modding you'll notice the difference.

*edit* btw, what was your out the door price?

and beecareful!! and good call on the not driving it to school cuz high school kids are pretty messed up! i would know, im one (a highschool kid, not messed up)

Congrats on the car and that is a great deal! But I have one suggestion, dont mod the car for awhile. Learn how to drive it first and let that warranty, at least the 3 year/36000 mile run out before you start messing with the engine. I have read way to many threads of people crying because they mod their cars and something breaks(not always because of the mods) and because of the mods they dont get it fixed. Just a suggestion. Have fun and drive safe!

Btw, what high school gets out on Jan 21st?

yea im only 17 (very little driving experience) and coming from a 1990 pontiac firebird, 305 small block (if im lucky 140 rwhp) automatic, the wrx is gonna feel plenty fast and stop and handle 100x better than that big pig. i live in ct and im at a public school where im lucky enough to have the opportunity to graduate half year because i have the required classes/credits. i dont officially get my diploma until june when the majority of the class is done, but im really not a big fan of high school and wanted out asap. i could have even done a 3 year plan but that was too much work for me. its a pretty sick deal for me i guess. and getting a wrx at the end of all this is making me want these 3 weeks left to fly by.

more about the car...
so those mods are for the future...being 17 im gonna have to save my money for insurance and being under my dad isnt gonna make getting parts easy. he did let my brother mod his spec v when he got it when he was my age and it took him a year to let him turbo it, which brings me to why i got the wrx. it was one of my choice cars and when my brother went turbo, i really liked the performance of it so i decided when i got a new car i would have a turbo on it. my dad didnt like the time it took for my brother to get his car done (it was in the shop for about a month) and told me not to waste my time trying to turbo a car that isnt like that from the factory and that i should really consider this car because it has a turbo and a warranty...

alright im done babbling...im jus really excited about this new car...only my second car and from what im coming from its going to be 10x better (not that my firebird is a piece of sh**...its a 1990 with 65,000 original miles on it very clean body is perfect, been in the family since 20,000 miles and a family friend was the original owner.)

alright thanks for any more suggestions/comments

shooot lol...i type so much and i still forget to ask what i wanted...

alright...i swear i read somewhere that some one was saying that rota wheels su**? they said they were weak or sumthin...im not sure...i was wonering what your imput would be on these kind of wheels, or possibly select a better wheel. i dont want weak wheels on my car, but subydude was good deals on rota's and i like the design of the wheel which is the most important thing. its not that im gonna listen to what everyone else says so no flaming that its my car i should do what i like lol. i thinkin about gold wheels, or hyper silver on the torques. anyother suggestions of what i should take a look at that could make my suby look better? i think im gonna go over to the BOV forum now...i like the sound, but i gotta read the pros and cons and see wether i should do it...

later

Welcome to the board. As far as wheels my choice would be gold Supeleggeras, the springs should come first though since it looks like a 4x4 otherwise. I just installed a GFB hybrid BOV and it's awesome, not loud at low RPMs and doesn't make the car run like poop.

Damn bro, I think you're a little sensitive or something. I was trying to help you by giving you the website. The "bronze is the new gold" was in response to your question about wheel color. That was a joke.

oh yeah, i thikn you should stay away from BOV and cold air intakes and...other mods that really don't give you too much except for the look and sound. if you look around the board, and im sure you have, you would see that people agree the aftermarket BOVs don't do much in terms of performance because the stock bov is already good enough, but if u like you like tat cool pssh bov sound, then go for it. and also the cold air intake, which is generall a good mod for other cars, is not for the wrx because , i tihkn, im not sure, of the turbo set up and all that good stuff. but look aorund and make sure, and dont waste money on those mods. as for the wheels, personally, which..means in my opinion, id save up for some volks(yeah they are expensive as hell but damn they are nice!) and get like..le37's in gunmetal with polished lips. I really like tehse rims so im biased, most volks are nice anyways. the rotas are good though, especially for their price, so yeah, research some more and look around in the gallery, u'll evnetually find what you're looking for, just takes a lot of time. and yeah, like you, i just research all this car mods and stuff when i get a wrx, but since u've already been looking at it for a while, u should know what u want. i understand your want to get everything perfect cuz it is money and this is ur car, so..we're here to help as much as we can.
