New Subaru ads geared toward homosexuals and lesbians

That's right. I don't even own a Subaru but SOA still sends me email to take surveys for the brand. I have no problem doing this mainly b/c I think Subaru makes an excellent car. I got an email from SOA today to take a survey and answer some questions. I thought it would be cool b/c the email said that there would be 3 short videos and then some questions.

The first video alludes to the targeting of homosexuality at the very end. It's almost as if you are not sure of what you just saw. The next two IMO were absolutely appalling and offensive. They depict the Forester and Tribeca as practical choices for homosexual couples. I am not prejudice in the least but had I known that I would be watching videos targeting same sex unions I would have gracefully declined.

I don't know if this link will work but here is the end of the survey: http://www.iceology.com/surveys/Suba...ity/survey.asp

I wonder what SOA is thinking?

They want to sell more vehicles - what else? Their marketing has never been 'conventional', harking back to the days when Martina Navratilova and Paul Hogan were recruited to hawk Subaru fine points on TV ads. Both ad campaigns worked well. Subaru doesn't make political statements, they just make and sell cars.

I will continue to own Subarus, regardless of their marketing campaigns. The only things that matters to me are the vehicles.

These ads are not currently being used. This was a test of marketing strategies.

I got that same email and watched the commercials during the survey today. I think the music made them pretty strange and creepy. It'd certainly be hard to argue that the couples (especially in the 3rd commercial) don't seem like "couples". I wasn't appauled or offended at all, but it was clearly strange to see something that seemed so intentionally played out. Maybe Subaru should make another commercial with a white guy, a black woman, a hispanic guy, and an middle eastern woman next. They'd need the same airy and strange music of course.

If I knew there was going to be a thread about it I would have saved the movies to disk.

Theres going to be specific gay and lesbian channels soon (or are they already on?) so it only makes sense to have specific ads. They have print ads in major homosexual magazines, does that make you uncomfortable?
Why does it offend you so much? Subaru is an alternative style brand, so of course it attracts alternative lifestyle people.

Considering I actually take my STi out in the dirt like it's rally heritidge commands that I do, I probably lead an "alternative" lifestyle to most i-club folks.

When I owned my Dodge, I'd have said no.. but something about owning a Legacy makes me incredably attracted to you. Lets go offroading, if you know what I mean.

But I have a turbo! Youre more than worth your weight in gas. I'll look into Amtrak...
