Hey I-Club,
Well, this is my first post on the forum. I have some newbie questions so please bare with me. I guess my first question would be does the new 04' STi WRX come automatic? and secondly is more of a scenario, right now i currently drive a 2k Maxima.. love the car to death but my dad is gettin his own company car, and he says cant drive it. Which means i have to get my own car I've been lookin at the WRX but i dont know if to get one used or wait for the 04'? Is there any automatic drivers out there? I also been visiting this site before i actually made an account and saw that all the WRX needs is a turbo timer to hit 13's is this true and if so can it be achieved on an automatic model as well, and is it possible to put a BOV on an automatic? Once again thanks for your time and patience..

Ya, it's the same engine so you can do anything you want to an auto as a manual, unless there's something out there I'm forgetting. If you really need the auto just get the WRX, it'll still handles great and it'll be plenty faster that most automatics out there. Plus, with the few grand you save over the STi you can afford some nice mods.

Hey welcome to the board. nice lookin' Max. i think you will be very please w/ a WRX. looking for a used car may be the way to go. you could probably find a nice '02 in the $19-20k range, some maybe even less depending on milage. then again, subaru dealers are offering 0.9% financing (in the new england area anyway) on the '03's. about the turbo timer, this will not add any performance to your car or make it run any faster. all it does it calculate how long the car should run after you remove the key to allow the turbo to "spool down". this is so the oil doesn't get baked when you shut the car off after the turbine has been spinning super high rpms and the oil is no longer being pumped. not really something you need in my opinion, just let your car idle for a minute or two, and you're all good. and yes, you can do anything to the engine on an auto that you can on a 5spd. (well except for things like a lightened flywheel, ect.)
hope you find rex soon!

Hey X1
thanks alot for the advice..i saw a WRX run one night when i was in LI, Deer Park Ave. this is in new york. and i gotta say the pull off was unlike anything i eva saw before, im very impressed with the car... alot of maxima.org peeps see the WRX as a threat to the VQ35DE engine.. but i figure im still somewhat young (26) and i will be gettin married by next year so i need a car that is a contender, i tried to run a WRX one night he flew past me i have the VQ30DE engine thats what nissan introduced in 99'.

hey anytime man. yeah the rex has some serious pull. the wrx was the first turbo car i had driven, and i could not believe it. haven driven some nice subys (01 rs,susp., intake, exhaust, more, very tight) i could not believe how much difference there was. it takes some getting used to the power band, as it comes much later, but much much stronger. i am currently driving a 95 Talon TSi which is a 2.0T (i'm still 20, and into the 2dr thing!!), although i wish it could be a 99 RS turbo...
o well. i still love, and know much more about subaru's than any other car.
i think a lot cars will see the wrx as a threat, especially w/ the intro of the STi. i think that car is going to seek and destroy.

whats up my man welcom to the site, I just got my WRX a month a go and i love it, i had a 97 civic ex coupe that i put about $10,000 into and the bone stock WRX is much better (except for the body roll). I think you mean boost controler, this actualy controles the amount of boost the turbo puts out. dont know what kind of numbers this will give you but going from the 13.5 psi to say 15 will make it faster for sure. the turbo time just runs the engine after you turn off the car to make sure the turbo is properly cooled off. My suggestion is learn to drive stick, auto does not give you the performance feel. a possible way to save $ on a new WRX would be to buy the current body style as soon as the new style comes out because the dealer will want to get rid of them fast. plus there are only cosmetic changes for 2004 from what i have seen.
Good luck, once again learn stick its not hard.

hey mutant 9,
reason for me gettin automagic, is cause i will be teaching my g/f how to drive. and she will be using the car once she gets her license. besides i think im to use to driving auto...id much rather just press the gas and go...my max is automagic and i kick *** with just a STILLEN Hi-Flow Intake, most of my money went into suspension mods...if my car can handle then i can driver faster you know...so i might follow the same map for the WRX when i get it...but thanks alot for your input i guess it was the boost controller i was talkin about...

I see where you are coming from. I learned how to drive on my dads 85 mazarati bi turbo, it was a little hard but i got it pretty quickly. You will like the performance you get more form the stick than the auto, and it is not hard to learn to drive on a stick. just my recomendation, but good luck either way.

Also, you won't find a documented "cool down" procedure from Subaru as there was on previous models. FHI/Subaru actually published that it's unnecessary for the turbo on a WRX. Therefore the point of having a TT on a WRX is moot. btw, Welcome FT STi WRX.

Kean

no, i did mean "spool down." pulling into your driveway after a hard drive, the turbine will turning extreme rpm's, thus the need for it to spool down to an appropriate rpm, and not bake itself.
