I had this debate with myself back in 2005 with my near perfect 2000 Outback Sport. With all of my resources, and the shop I worked at... I decided this was a bad idea.
Ended up buying a 2002 WRX and later a 2004 STi

You simply cannot build a WRX/STI for the price you can buy one.

I'm in the process of building a hybrid motor. I'll let you know how it works out.

Yeah, you're not going to be making 400hp with that.

What's the point of asking for advice if you aren't going to accept any of it and do what you want anyway?

Nothing wrong with wanting a project car where you want to learn things. However, converting 2.5i to WRX or 400hp won't be cheap, easy or very logical...but to each their own, it is your money and time.

If you set on swapping/converting a car, I would suggest an RS or BG Legacy project car instead...at least you will get some cool points

I owned a 2007 2.5i once... Then I sold it for 10k and put it down for a 2013 WRX.

Yeah but the thing is I like my car and I want to learn about it. I'm not saying I have decided on swapping the engine or tranny or anything but I don't want to just go out and buy something already complete. The point is I want to learn and do the things myself.
