motor oil problem
i change my oil like i always do with all my cars..but now with this subie,i drain the oil and remove the oil filter then the usual replacement of a new filter and new oil.....4and a half quarts of mobil 1 syn 5w 30 and i start the car .......then i check the dip stick and the oil level is on the bottom as if the engine had 1 quart of oil.....the oil change was performed at my garage which was leveled and it's not the first time i change my oil there....
but i'm sure that there is more than 4 bottles in there....so i drive it around to a gas station and check it again....but still no luck....after 2 days of driving and about 100 miles later i check my oil level and it's normal...has anyone ever run into this problem....or can someone please tell me why....or is it the design of the ej20

When I changed my oil the first time, I forgot to push the dipstick in all the way until it clicked into place (as opposed to just waiting until it stopped moving downward). That had me confused for a couple minutes as to why my oil was at the bottom mark. Dunno if that could be it.

if you are putting the filter on dry (that is without adding oil to it first) you need to put a full 5 qts in the system. and you can not check the oil the minute you fill it. wait 5-8 mins. it has to collect in the pan. and after you drive same thing, you have to let it sit for a few. and if the stick only has oil on the very bottom, that does not mean 1 qt in your engine, that means about qt shy. 1 qt in your engine would not show up on the stick at all. hope i could help.

Well I cant help you but I can tell my (very similar) story
At 6K I decide to change for synth, at the dealership they only had Castrol Syntec so I said Ok go ahead.
1K later, I checked the oil (at -25 Celsius, car is cold), *&^*&^*%*&% The dipstick is completely dry (And I too pushed it completely, and the car was leveled).
It took 1.5 liters for it to appear full.
Went to the dealership, we measured what came out of the engine, 5.5 liters! (They admitted to only putting 4, so add my 1.5 and all is there!)
Now I noticed they used 5W50 (I now bring my own Mobil1 5w30 on oil change), can this be it?
Anyway, since then I checked in nearly the same conditions, and it now seems to read OK.
Weird!!!!!
